Hey guys I'm just looking for some advice! I am getting myself a new knife with some b-day money and my savings! Just need a bit of advice as to what to get. I am looking for a knife with a 2.5-3.5inch blade that is flat ground and has belly. Handle material should be wood or bone, I prefer woods like olive wood, juniper, sandalwood and other similar types. Slip joint or lockback but I am wanting it to be more of a Gents knife, just for cutting up food and admiring more than anything else. My budget is 130 Canadian Dollars, that includes shipping. Any advice is greatly appreciated! thanks guys and have a great day.

A Laguiole would fit most of your specs. I've seen them in gorgeous olivewood and other types of exotic woods. Not to mention bone and stag. That would be a perfect gent's knife. Plus I think that sculpted bee on the backside is the coolest.

How about considering Queen Cutlery's Teardrop Liner lock?

Available in Amber Bone, Zebra wood or Bird's Eye Maple. Within your budget with ease.

I have the juniper Chambriard and that wood has a lovely peppery smell. A nice gentlemens knife indeed!

I actually had that Chambriard but in curly birch. Handsome as all outdoors with a nice matte front bolster and filework on the backside. Why did I get rid of that little sweetheart? :(

Matte bolster sounds nice! the curly birch does have an appealing pattern to it.

take a look at the gec lockback. can be had in jigged bubinga wood, great metal & light --super smooth.

Also the 73 model comes in a few woods I think....atleast I have two of the cocobolo version, single and with the spey blade ,very nice! (although I have another in smooth white bone that I like best as a nice gents knife)

That sounds nice, how is the backspring on it?

I have its larger brother, Le Compagnon which is about 4.25" closed, fine pic-nic knife. The spring on this is excellent in that it's easy to open but hell to close! Really secure in that way, but watch out for the snap! The Compact also comes in Snakewood,Ebony and Rosewood, pretty knives, the filework is nice and the finish high.
