Knife Recommendations for a Family Member

I'm constantly having to fix my older sister's old Timber Wolf pocket knife (labeled as AISI 420 steel). I'm looking to surprise her with a new knife for her birthday, but I have no real idea on what to get. What I do know is that the knife she has now is larger than what she would actually carry on her person. It floats around in her pocket book and she's said that this is because it's too heavy and all around big to be in her pocket (around a 9 ounce knife with only a 3 and a quarter inch blade). What do you guys recommend?

Knives that came to mind (all Spydercos):

- Dragonfly
- Delica 4 FFG
- Cat

The knives you mentioned are all good...you could also consider the Chicago and native (FRN)

UKPK is nice and light, plus no lock for her to have to mess with to close it.

She doesn't mind the liner lock on the knife she has currently, just the size and weight of it.

i have a SOG aegis mini and i love it. only 2 ounces. barely noticeable in the pocket. the arc lock is very strong. i think i only paid $50 for mine.

SOG sucks harder than a two dollar whore. Caly 3's are cool. I unfortunately have too many knives. I've not had pocket time for half of them yet. :(

Of those suggested the Dragonfly would work but be significantly smaller than the knife she currently has, Delica is of course a step up but still lightweight.

I'd also add the Chaperral into the mix or even a Sage 1 if she's happy with the size...

Best of luck!

Ben

If you think there's a chance she'll continue to carry in her pocketbook stick with a midlock. The Delica in FFG in a nice color would be great.

Yea, there's a chance of this and my Delica 4 is my personal favorite EDC at the moment. I have the pivot on her current knife slightly tighter than it needs to be so it's harder for it to come open while in her pocketbook. She likes my Delica 4 by the way.

My daughter loves the delica for pocket and endura for purse, wife likes the Q with US flag, in pocketbook. Both have admired the pink native.

My wife is eyeing the Balance. She hasn't handled it yet, but really likes the look of it. She really likes flippers though, so only one Spyderco to fit that bill so far. She wasn't impressed with my Dragonfly I just got. She really likes liner locks.

Flippers are ADDICTIVE! I know this is frowned upon, but another good knife is the Zero Tolerance 350, buy a blem and its a killer deal. I love both companies equal, i swear. I have thousands into each <3

I will also vote on the Dragonfly. The ladybug would be nice too. Both of those are what my sister EDCs in her purse.

I know this is a Spyderco forum but I've read too many positive reviews for the Kershaw Skyline not to recommend it for size to weight ratio. I also think the Spyderco Stretch has one of the better blade length/ closed length ratios out there if the 3" timber wolf falls short on size

Can't go wrong with a Delica. The Dragonfly is also a good option if you're considering something smaller/lighter. Although not Spydercos, the Leek or Scallion might also be worth a look. They have a sliding safety on them, which might be beneficial to preventing accidental snagging/opening while sitting inside a purse.

If you are going spiderco get the salsa. Fit in woman's hand perfect. Sog don't blow my blink is better then any knife of its sizecwich would be my other recommendation.utx-70 if you're laws permit it.protech defiance runt sprint.protech has best knives and customer service then I go spyderco

i have very much enjoyed my new cat. it is very secure in the grip. the g 10, ergronomics, choil, jimping, all lock in and the solid lockup also makes me confident in this knife. my dragonfly is still my favorite for the small 'supersharp scalpel' or 'in public/dont disturb people' role. it also has very good grip and excellent corrosion resistence.
