How many of you keep knife records? I was taking a look at some of my knives a couple weeks ago, and forgot what some steels were on some of my custom fixed blades. I've also "misplaced" some knives, gone out and bought replacements, and then found the misplaced knife, which goes in my trade box.

How many here keep a basic record of what their knives are etc? I'm not talking former owners, price paid etc. Just the makers name, the model name and the materials used.

I know, I know, some of you don't want your significant others seeing these knife records...:D

I keep an Excel Spread Sheet , it has a few columns, the date bought, make, model ,price and vendor. I have an extra column to include an amount if I sell one and I use filters if I want to search for a particular knife .

For some reason this year I stopped at May, I need to add quite a few.:)

I've begun to store copies of my custom knife pics. I mean the pics the knifemakers posted in the For Sale threads. I also copy the most relevant stats that were posted.

A spreadsheet would have been a good idea years ago, but now it would take a lotta key-banging to get caught up :grumpy:

I do, quite detailed. Maker, price, steel, rc, weight, dimensions, order date, price, etc... Plus emails, design sketches if any...

I have a PC folder devoted to my knives. Pics of each one and a simple text file with any information.

A spreadsheet is probably the most flexible, concise and easy way to do it. A database program would be excellent if you are familiar with using one.
Probably the simplest non-PC method is with index cards.
My PC usage has changed over the last few years, and now I tend to keep records like this in non-program specific more generic manner (or I've just gotten lazy:D).

If you collect/accumulate at all, it really is a good idea to keep some kind of record. You think you will remember this stuff, but its amzing how quickly it can get confused.

Dude, I wish I had your problem...

I keep an Excel spreadsheet with the maker, model number, model name, handle material, blade steel, year of manufacture, date of purchase, wether or not I have the box, and price paid. I also record the run size if it is a limited run and if the knife was a gift I record that too.

With online purchases I often have this information recorded before I even get the knife.

When you're carrying a Sebenza and driving an 85 Toyota pickup truck, something is wrong.

I should be carrying a Buck 110 and driving a 2010 Chevrolet Silverado.

Please use the General forum according to the simple rules we have.

If it is not about knives (the stuff we collect and cut with) it does not belong in General.

This should not be that hard.
