Knife Related Story I Just Have to Share

This is a knife related incident from last night that I've just got to share. I had just finished sharpening up a knife and went to open a box with it. Somehow it slipped and slashed my finger pretty darn good. Lots of blood, you know the drill (didn't stop to take a picture). Anyhow, as I'm in the bathroom taking care of it, I get this comment from a family member: "That's what you get for being obsessed with knives. It's not very smart and it's dangerous. You're going to end up cutting yourself worse than that because you keep them way too sharp." More than that got said, I have no idea what as I more or less tuned it out at that point. For sure the first time that I've ever heard that one. The 'obsessed' part... umm, yea... maybe. ;)

Yup.

I pre warned my wife the other day as I was playing with my knives. I turned to her in mid flick and said "you know this is going to end badly, right?" She just said mmm hmm over her book, then went back to reading. :)

Yup nothing like the "why is this knife so sharp" look:rolleyes: lol

Or the small trail of blood I left leading to the bathroom. Thankfully, it hasn't been painful at all. But, I can already tell it's going to be there for a while as it's still bleeding from time to time about 12 hours later.

Odds are if you are around knives a lot you will occasionally get nicked. It helps to always be careful and vigilant. It helps to not mindlessly play with knives when you are sitting around bored, certainly not if you have been drinking. But it's like people that play football or ride motorcycles or whatever, there is some danger associated with the activity and it is accepted as a risk to go along with the benefits and enjoyment of the activity.

"certainly not if you have been drinking."
laughed out loud because i have this mysterious and incomprehensible tendency to flip my butterflys when I get drunk... those have been some of the worst cuts ive ever gotten

just a few days ago I stabbed myself in the hand, my wife asked what happened when she saw me holding a paper towel to clot the cut, and I told her and she replied "dumb a__" yeah I had it comming.

I cut my finger open on christmas morning. Had to get some stitches. It really sucked. :(

not only do i get this look but i find it funny when i hand my knife to somebody and they look at it and say "nice knife, WOW sharp". WTF did you expect!!

if you get sliced with a really sharp knife the wounds accually heals better than with a dull one, less rippage.

I'm on rat poison (Coumadin) and it doesn't take much of a nick or cut to get me bleeding pretty good. When I do get a cut my wife just gives me that look that says," Knives...Why does it have to be knives?".

Agreed and easier for them to fix at the ER as well if you have to get stitches. Thankfully, I didn't have to. Probably came close though, but it's mostly healed shut unless I bend my finger too much (part of it runs across the first knuckle just up from the tip). So yea, it's all good now that I've gotten the blood off the carpet and bathroom floor. :)

Yup, had more than a few incidents like that myself. The first two pictures were from a slip with a Glock field knife...the third was from the Resilience in the background. Cut through a bit of fingernail and a lot of finger with a Kabar Warthog folder once.
Nearly slashed myself with a CS Roach Belly (in the belly, by the way) a few days ago. Luckily I only caught my shirt.

Most of these 'accidents' have been from carelessness...letting my mind wander or being too sleepy. Others have been a mix of circumstance and clumsiness.

You know, they say with experience you'll learn your lesson.
Good thing I just keep on learning my lesson, then! ;)

Keeping a knife sharp is not an obsession, it's basic tool maintenance.
Most people are so dumb they can't even understand that. They just buy a new 5$ POS when their old one can't tear through stuff anymore.

That's to funny. "That's what you get for being obsessed with knives." Sounds like my wife. I cut myself messing with a knife about 30 yrs ago, i swear, and to this day I can't get my knife out without hearing,"be careful with that, remember that time you cut yourself". Selective memory. FER shur..
