knife repair?

I have a friend who dropped his folder knife while rock climbing and it landed, true to Murphy's law, on the tip. I am guessing the steel is either a 440C or an ATS-34. I don't know the make of the knife but he paid around $80 a few years ago.

Tip is now bent. What are his options? can the tip be straightened without fatiguing the metal? can the tip be reground? Who can he send his knife to? Thanks for any replies

First what kind of knife is it? Depending on the type of steel, his best bet would be to have it annealed and straightened and then re-heat treated. Or he could just have it ground down to a new point, like the origional, which would make the handle out of porpotion, but the handle could also be changed to fit the knife. It probally won't be covered by a manufacture's warranty. I might be able to help you out, email me outside of the forums.
