A few months ago, I purchased from an antique store, a small 2 blade pen knife with amazing mother of pearl handle scales. the problem: the backspring is broken and a piece is missing. the small pen blade is chipped near the tip, the larger pen blade has a very small chip in the edge. the knife, in the condition it is in, is not usable. The question: how would I go about repairing the knife?

one of the custom slipjoint makers may beable to do the repair and fabricate a new part.I think there was a guy here that went under the title "bandit" that did alot of knife customizing. It may cost more than the knife is worth though.good luck

I've been thinking. the knife is a swedish pen knife, and it looks like it was an advert. for something. I can't read swedish. :D I really just wanted to save the scales. would it be possible for a custom maker to fabricate a knife similar to the one I have, using the scales and even the brass liners. The knife, to be usable, really DOES need a full overhaul. thanks for the advice, I might try this on the custom forum or the slipjoint forum for more info

Just about anything is possible if you are willing/able to spend the money. My concern with MOP scales would be that when the pins are removed it could very possibly crack the scales. I am sure that an experienced maker who has worked with MOP could handle it though.

You might not want to hear it but it would probably just be cheaper to have a custom slip joint maker make a new knife with MOP scales.
