Knife replacement

I sent in an unused Para1 Digi/black with some pretty noticable vertical slack and asked Spyderco to evaluate. I was told it cannot be fixed and that they would be replacing it with a Para2 Digi/Black. It's sort of a bummer and exciting at the same time. I don't quite see this as "scoring" because the originals are only going to get more scarce and cost more but I am sure that I will enjoy the P2 just the same. Kudos to Spyderco for their stellar CS.

I could see the good/bad part of this though I personally would be quite happy to get a Para2 in replace of a Para1.

Knowing spydercos reputation I am sure they tried everything but unfortunately this is a time where older models are going out and not coming back and the newer models are replacing the small amount left.

Have they shipped it back to you yet? I have read that they sometimes give a credit in replace of a new knife.


Also, I am sure you will have no trouble if you wanted to trade the new para2 for a new para1... Yes extra work on your end but hey, worth a shot.
 
Congrats! I think you will be very happy with the Para 2.

I have both, and the 2 is my favorite by far.
 
I was not excited at all about the P2 when it was introduced. :yawn: I got one and thought "wow!" As I said before, in my opinion this is one of those cases where the whole is greater than the sum of the parts. I didn't think the P1 needed any improvement, but the P2 is noticeably better. YMMV, but I hope it doesn't and that you'll have the same reaction. :thumbup:
 
I would be happy with a new knife. I have a paramilitary 1 with vertical play and handle flex. I sent it to spyderco and received it back sharpened saying it was fine.
 
I had a P2 for 8 days and sold it when they were hot as a pistol. I used the money to buy the P1. I really like the clips on the P1s and carry Millies and paras tip down anyway. I do have the Para CPMD2 so I have the original covered with a heck of a knife.
It won't hurt to have each flavor.
