So, anyone else ever feel compelled to rescue a knife from a careless owner? I saw a guy working at pep boys auto parts using a kershaw skyline as a prybar - it about broke my heart. I offered him 15 bucks for it and took it home and cleaned it up. It'll live out the last of its days roaming free in my office.

Anyone else at all?

No, it's his knife, let him use it how he wants. I'd use a Skyline as a prybar too... Ya it might break it, but it's far from a high dollar knife and I wouldn't cry if I broke it.

i havent come across anyone with a quality knife that doesnt know how to use it properly or know its limits, mostly its people with dollar store knives, which i dont mind breaking that much

Well actually I did a few times.
But it can not be helped by buying out... If they believe they need a knife - they will get it. And if they do not know how to use it - they will break it sooner or later. We can only hope that they will learn from that. Not much chance - but probably more than from simply selling it to you. ;)

Aside from bringing an old Mora with a carbon blade inside that had been hanging out in the rain once at a friends house, no never had the need really. Can't say it would solve the problem of people abusing knives, IMO better to let them break a cheap knife once and learn for good, than give them the chance to buy a more expensive knife to break in the same way.

Usually people learn pretty quickly not to use a knife for heavy prying after they snap one. Apparently even some knife guys think prying with a knife is a good idea though, so maybe not everyone learns the same...

The own it? Then let him/her use is as they please. Their abuse helps to keep knife companies in business.

Now if someone was abusing a dog...

Oh, for sure - a cat, meh... but a dog - never!!!

(not condoning hurting cats, just not a fan! and, a cat wouldn't come back after being beaten once like a dog would)
