hey folks!
I have KR legion made by my good friend Tommy of Knife Research
here are some pics of the KR Legion I own, during a 2 week camping trip in northern Italy
most pics are of the 2 Legion we had, Mine (Sleipner, satin, convex edge Desert G-10) and Tommy's prototype (with swedge and PVD coating, V edge)

I strongly suggest the KR Legion, which has proven to be a hell of a knife, strong, rugged, tough, sharp
we played ans used the knives a lot during the camping trip in 2 different locations (1200 and 1800m) so you will see we not only used them to gather firewood but also to have fun and see what you can do with them
Steel is SLEIPNER, it made over 1200 cuts of rope, grain is g11,1 and hardness is 60.1hrc. the knives are made by Lion Steel Maniago Italy

I'm in no way affiliated to KR, we are just old friends

It looks like you made a good effort to break it and it wouldn't break. I'm impressed. How did the edge hold up after the baton torture test?

it's 5mm of well HT'ed steel (and like 70 joules resilience,A2 has like 40 at 58-59hrc) you need a good vise and long tube to break it ;) it's a hell of a knife! Tommy had a hard time in the lab to break one, check the vids on youtube

no damage to the edge, you could still cut fine with it actually after a week, not shaving but with a working edge, no dings, nicks or whatsoever, edge is 0,6mm pre sharpening so pretty stout
only light damage was as I hit the ground (so maybe stones) doing some batoning which resulted in 2 small "dings"(?) near the tip and on the spine when I batoned knife on knife (spine to spine) as the baton broke and I didn't want to make another one (lazy due to the hunger) and some scratches from the tent poles as I used it to hammer them on the ground

the knife has been resharpened and the spine reflatted and rounded on a belt sander, looks new!
it's really a great tough sharp knife, great steel and treatment, nice finish, at a great price (220€/300$ +-)

Am I seeing a LOG being dropped on it AND a rock smashing the spine AND a steel pipe smashing it until it bent? Dear lord.

yes, you're right :D
none of them damaged the knife, only knife on knife batoning (just to play..) has damaged the spine lightly

Very cool. The legion is quickly becoming my top choice for my next knife. Beautiful country too. Thanks!

That is pretty impressive. Those are close to L6 impact resistance numbers, but with D2 level wear resistance, right?

Anyone know any contact info for the maker of the large forest from kiko's knives in the picture?

ha... I saw the 'legion' in caps so I clicked on this thread thinking it would be about kingdom armory's 'legion' knife hehe... I already have dave's 'hand of god' and 'stavesacre' so the 'legion' is likely the next on my list if I can find one for sale or david opens his order book sometime... never mind....

Still well below 3V which I think would be closer to the 100 joule range at that medium hardness. With that said, Sleipner it is a cast steel, so the price going to be much more reasonable and contrary to what a lot of folks say about the steel being a small part of the cost, when you are talking about making a BIG stock removal knife out of CPM steel, that price is not so small anymore. I would have to pay at least $30 for a pice of 3V big enough for that knife and that is before yo have it water jet cut and surface ground to get rid of the decrab and make it nice and flat. So you are talking $40-45 just for the blade blank.
Yes, but how does it compare with CPM-3V?

Nice post man, looks like you and Tommy had a blast giving the knife hell. Makes me look forward to getting mine out more!

Yes, but you're talking to a guy who bought a $45 piece of M390, had it sent for blanchard grinding for another $50, then paid for cross border shipping between US and Canada for heat treatment. That was for my Nirk Tighe in M390:D. So you might be getting a blank stare from me on this point O_o

But then again, if Sleipner handled all that at Rc 60+ without significant "dings", it's hard to imagine what advantage you might get from CPM-3V. Maybe a thinner blade/grind or higher hardness? I'd be interested in trying to make a sword from 3V, but maybe I ought to actually make a knife first from that rusting steel bar sitting in my living room before I fantasize about anything bigger:D>
