Knife retirement?

The handle scales have long been replaced with some wood I found somewhere. Every scratch, ding and chip tells a story of a day in the past.
It's blade is reduced to 3/5 of its original bladesize and resembles a pen-knife. The tip starts about where the nailnick is.
Aside from the bottle opener and blade, all other tools are no longer in usable condition, broken, bent or in dire need of repair I am unable or unwilling to perform.

Even with more expensive and more quality knives readily available, I chose this knife.
My SAK has been a most valuable companion in the past fourteen years.
It has seen what I have seen and done all I demanded it to do. Most of all, it never failed me.

It deserves a small stand next to my safe queens and liquors.

How about you?
When do you think "it's time for a knife to retire"...?
Have you ever felt pity for your knife?

This Case Trapper earned a rest. I don't remember when I bought it new, but it's the only personal item I didn't turn in at the start of U.S. Army Basic Training in January 1969. No pity. It earned everything and I have only respect.

I don't think I'm old to have an old knife and I own so many I don't see it happening soon anyways. :D
