Knife Rights needs YOU! I can think of no excuse why every member of this forum doesn't join Knife Rights. You represent the core knife owner and user around which we can build a powerful advocacy group. Please join today at www.KnifeRights.org/membership

(Knife Rights was formerly known as U.S. Knife & Tool Association - same organization, new and better name. This is a grassroots organization that is not associated with AKTI, the industry organization.)
-----------------------------------------------

In Europe and Australia, regulations regarding knives, including their size, style and ownership by individual citizens have made many commonly carried pocket knives illegal.

Knife Rights, a grassroots advocacy organization dedicated to defending Americans' right to own, carry and use knives has been created to oppose similar attacks on individual rights by left wing activists.

Announcing the new organization at SHOT Show 2007, Doug Ritter, founder and Chairman of Knife Rights, said, "we must organize now and be ready when the only solution is to flood the politicos' offices with mail. If we wait, it will be too late."

“The anti-gun lobby is already well organized,” says Ritter, “They sent up a trial balloon last summer in the Wall Street Journal. The piece was inflammatory, inaccurate and misleading. It looked exactly like their campaign to demonize the term ‘Assault Rifle”. Just substitute the term ‘tactical knife’”.

The knife in the article, Ritter adds, was Buck Knives’ diminutive Metro. “That knife,” says Ritter, “is essentially a bottle and soda can opener with a tiny 1 1/8 inch blade. Not exactly what I’d call horribly dangerous despite its being ‘virtually unregulated.’”

"Knives are tools that have been essential to civilized society for practical and lawful purposes for millennia. Knives and other edged tools are a cornerstone of civilization and remain useful tools to millions of citizens, even in the modern world. Our right to own, use and carry these tools should not be abridged; these are Essential Tools and Essential Rights."

Knife Rights is a non-profit advocacy member organization. Annual membership is $28. Go to www.KnifeRights.org to join or dial toll-free: 866-889-6268.

Doug has my full support with this. We need a voice out there being proactive against those who'd remove these vital tools from our pockets, packs, and kitchens. I strongly suggest that you join up today.

Buck Knives’ diminutive Metro!

Were they trying to say that was a weapon? :jerkit:

I also think of knives as tools - doesn't everyone use a knife of some sort just about every single day!! I'm new to this forum and never realized the extent of laws that are already out there concerning knives. I still think it's rediculous that you can't take a pocket knife on a plane. When you go to the DMV here they take your knife until you come out of the building.

I think Archie Bunker had it right when he said they should arm passengers when they board :D .

Doug

I do intend to join

I'm a member. Hopefully, we can all work with Doug and help insure that our freedoms remain intact.

Thanks to Mr. Ritter and all who have joined!

:)

You should definitely join

I don't even carry a SAK anymore for fear of being prosecuted :(

Don't let your country end up like this one. It doesn't make a safer country, as proved by the fact our government are in crisis talks after a spate of 15 year old kids being gunned down in London.

.. The website is inaccessible due to certificate problems or some such? Perhaps someone can look into this problem to get the website up and running again. It seems like a great cause which we should all support.

Just checked in on the website and it's up and running again. I am also a member and strongly support the right to carry and use knives of all sorts.

Anyone else had a long response time in getting membership materials sent after joining? I've had my canceled check back from Knife Rights for about a month now and not received any correspondence from them.

I hope you folks that had some trouble getting in the Knife Rights web page were able to join. Fortunately, I had no trouble.

I have received all my membership materials....but I didn't join to get a ball cap. I joined in hopes of helping perserve our legal rights to own, carry and use edged tools. (It would have been nice, however, to win one of those great knives in the drawing.):)

If you haven't been back to the website, please consider joining.

:)

I think the name "Knife Rights" is horrendous and should be changed.

But I support the idea of it 1000%.

The NRA, one of our most successful lobbies (bless 'em), didn't call itself "Gun Rights".

We should think on this a bit further, and start with a freakin' great name that won't scare the pants off people.
