Knife Sahpening????

I like "An Edge in Kitchen" by Chad Ward. Don't let the kitchen part fool you. It is oriented toward kitchen knives and cooking but covers most all sharpening systems and applies to all types of knives and is very technically accurate and informative.

A lot of the sharpening stuff from the book by Chad is also here in this tutorial. http://forums.egullet.org/index.php?showtopic=26036

This is the best overall basic information I have seen in one place. Very well written.

Pick up a copy of Steve Bottorf's book http://users.ameritech.net/knives/ It will give you good, clear, easy to follow instructions for using all the various sharpening devices, and give you advice on which method would be best for you. It's not the end-all/be-all of sharpening, but it is certainly the best-for-a-beginner type of book.

"The razor edge book of sharpening" by John Jurantich is generally regarded as the go-to book regarding sharpening. Well worth it, It'll give you a new depth of understanding.

another vote for razor edge sharpening

and

another vote for Sharpening made Easy

for cool photographs of edges under heavy magnification

The complete guide to sharpening, Leonard Lee (of Lee Valley tool)

Really, Sharpening Made Easy is hard to beat at around $10. Covers all the 'theory', then it's just the doing.
