Hey all,
Just curious how everyone distributes their knives, multitools, SAKs, axes, etc., about their person/gear in the wild.
Do you attach any of the above to the outside of your pack, place them in your pack, place them in a drop sheath, shoulder harness, etc.?
Trying to get some other ideas on how to carry things without looking like John Rambo.
Thanks,
Wesley

Last time, I have my multitool and the knife on me, and the axe and the folding shovel on the pack.

The SAK is either in a pocket or in a horizontally mounted belt pouch, while the axe & golok are attached to the outside of my pack. A BM 705 or Griptilian rides in the ruler pocket of my carpenter jeans or a small fixed blade IWB in an On-Scene Tactical multicarry rig.

SAK in small nylon pouch on belt left side, or in pocket if wearing a wide padded hip belt on my pack. FB camp knife in sheath on right thigh. Sheath has long nylon strap that drops it so that the top of the knife handle is about 8" below my belt. This gets it out of the way of my pack's padded belt. If I'm not carrying such a big pack (most of the time these days), the FB is in a simpler sheath on belt at right. Folding saw goes into my pack if I need something bigger than the SAK saw.

I've carried my Victorinox Outrider and a Mini Bic on a neck lanyard for a while. Recently I got a Normark neck rig, which makes using it easier (I don't have to pull the lanyard over my head and there is no lanyard attached to the knife to get in the way). I also got a Normark rig for my ARC AAA LED Light and am experimenting with carrying that and a modified Mini Fox 40 whistle on the lanyard as well, but frankly the whole thing is getting too heavy. I'll try a neoprene lanyard, but I might have to put some of the stuff back in my pockets.

Until recently, I usually hiked in Patagonia Baggies and a T-shirt in the summer. I only had one back pocket I could secure, so I developed the lanyard system for the stuff I wanted on my person but could not afford to lose. Everything else went in or on my pack. I recently got some cargo shorts that should dry as quickly as the baggies, so I have more room to carry stuff on my person.

BTW an easy way to carry a Bic on a lanyard is to get a short piece of bicycle inner tube. Just stretch one end around one end of the lighter (be careful not to depress the gas valve if you stretch it around the top). Then you can glue the other end together with rubber cement and punch a hole in it (or gromet it) for the lanyard.

I carry my ATCF and a Letherman Supertool on my belt in seperate pouches, I keep a folding saw inside my pack, and my sheath knife is attached to the outside of my pack. I do not have the best sheath right now, so until I am no longer lazy, on the pack it will ride.
Note: I can reach the sheath knife without taking off my pack.

I usually go for inconspicuous carry, being careful not to be 'concealing' per se. I usually always have a fixed blade of some sort (mora #1, Mora2000, CS mini bushman, CS recon tanto, or SOG Northwest ranger) which I carry on my belt or in the tool pocket of my carhart pants. I always have a folder in my left front pocket (spydie native, spydie salsa, or BM mini-AFCK). I always have my gerber multitool on my belt and I always have my SAK Rucksack in a neck sheath under my shirt. I have lots of cutting options available all the time and people can usually only see a small portion of the fixed blade sheath or the pocket clip of my folder. Most people don't equate either sighting with a knife nowadays...

This setup doesn't change when camping, except that I usually dump the small/medium fixed blade for my CS mini ghurka light khukuri which rides on the belt of my fanny pack. For lightweight, less conspicuous travels, the khukuri is replaced by the recon tanto, which can be hidden if necessary...

I don't really carry any knives in or on my pack except possibly an extra small fixed blade sometimes....

I live in Canada, so your mileage may vary....

Due to our anal knife laws.My wave stays on my belt in its pouch,a SAK goes in either pants or jacket pocket.Anything larger rides in the bergen (much to my displeasure). I used to rig up a fixed blade at the back of my bergen well out of sight, but was always paranoid when I took it off after being given the third degree by a retired female LEO in a car park who treated me like a school boy. There are only a few people (That I know of)in the UK who carry around their neck and fewer you use chest rigs, but after seeing some of the cool rigs on these forums I have been thinking about possibilities. If there are any of you Brits out there who know any UK retailers that stock the like please let me know.
Nick.
