Knife savings account for later trades?

I've got several good knives that I don't really need or want and I KNOW people like them and want them and I KNOW I could get something good for them but I haven't put them up for sale or trade yet because I'm just WAITING for a bunch of the new Benchmades to come out.

The thing is that when the new Benchmades come out I want to be in a situation where I CAN acquire a few of them instead of being in an unhappy spot where I'm just WISHING I had the money or some good things to trade for them. I could probably sell them now, but I know I'd spend it on some short-term-happiness knife, so I just keep them as, sort of, a knife-savings account.

Does anyone else keep good trades in reserve for a rainy day or something specific in the future like this?

I THINK it's a good strategy. I guess I'll see when the new BMs come out if I'm able to, successfully, turn some of these knives I've kept in reserve into a couple of the new BMs that I'll probably REALLY want.

Yep, I've done that before. I usually wate until I find whatever it is I really want, and then purchase it on the credit card. Then, I have at least a month until the bill is due to sell the others to pay off the bill. Havn't not been able to pay the bill off in full yet, so it seems to be working pretty well for me.

Another option that I have used in the past is to sell what you have now, then put that money in an envelope, write what the money is for on it, seal it, and put it in with your knife collection (thats assuming you have a place you keep most of your knives) It acts as a good reminder of what your saving that money for and keeps you from spending it on something else.

I guess we could just develope some self control too....but that's no fun :D

I've developed a lot of self-control with my knives. I've learned to slice the vegetables, not the thumb.

I like the idea of keeping a few good knives aside for trade, knives that I know people do ask for. But the others just sit there in their boxes, wishing (I hear them mumbling, late at night) that I'd sell them to a good user.

There is only one really effective knife savings account. It's ... The Lottery !!!

I have done that. I have a really cool custom fighter/bowie (sort of) that I've been holding back until I see that special something.

Then my roomate dropped it and cracked a chip off the handle. It is now effectively valueless. So that's a downside of not having sold it earlier.
