Knife / Saw folders - what's out there?

I'm looking at the Wenger Mountaineer, but I'm not hot on the 60/40 serrated blade. I'd like to stick with something in the 4" blade / sawblade length. What out there is comparable (or better in your opinion)?

I keep the Kershaw folding saw in my trekking pack. It has approximately a 7" blade. If you want the saw and knife in one package, you've got to look at either Wegner or Vic SAKs or SOG has a knife/saw revolving knife.

I think there are a few other's offered. Remington now has an Italian company making a folder with 440C blade and a saw. It is reportedly a great piece. AG Russell carries them. And you probably know this...many of the Italian knife makers are top notch.

:)

I'd give the Victorinox One Handed Trekker a go. The blade is partially serrated, but the serrations are very subdued, and on the end of the blade where they actually make sense. There is a regular Trekker (as opposed to being 'one handed') that has a normal blade as well. I have read on another forum that the SAK serrations are pretty easy to remove from a knife with sharpening stones if you dont like them (because they are so subdued). I hate serrations, but the OHT surprised me.

The 111mm SAK's have 3.5" locking blades and a bunch of them have saws. The saw doesn't lock, BTW, but the big flat screwdriver does. The Trailmaster with plain blade was my choice. It looks like they have kicked the model names around, so you will find the Trekker that looks just like the Trailmaster, with a plain blade, and others with serrated/one-handed opening. The Trekker doesn't come up at the Vic web site. Maybe it's all European/North American marketing stuff.

The Victorinox 111mm locking blade models listed on their web site are (* models have saws):

RescueTool

Nomad

Trailmaster *

Locksmith * (has a file too I see---vvvvvvery interesting!)

Picknicker

Rucksack *

Hunter *

Outrider *

Hercules *

WorkChamp *

Equestrian*

Skipper

Helmsman

Parachutist

A loty of people like the Farmer model, which is smaller (91mm frame) and has aluminum scales. I don't think it locks and I couldn't find it on the Vic web site.

I paid about $25 for the Trailmaster, which I think is one of the better bargains in cutting tools. Get a sheath/belt pouch-- they are a pocketfull.

Betcha can't buy just one :D
