Looking for knives in the $80 to $150 price range. May go a few dollars more if it's worth it. Preferably a g10 handle, but will go with frn if the blade steel is right. Looking at knives like the paramilitary 2, manix 2, benchmade rift 950, griptilian, 275 adamas, Kershaw blur, spyderco southard. If there are any cold steels out there that are folders and use better steel than aus 8 i'm interested if it uses the triad. what would you guys recommend out of the knives I've named? any knives like these styles that I've left out? I'm really leaning towards the rift....looks like a dressed up griptilian. liking the paramilitary but i'm not sure if I could close the lock one handed(also I'm not sure it's as fun to play with as an axis!) manix isn't exactly aesthetically pleasing to me, griptilian doesn't have g10 but not a deal breaker, the southard is made overseas and is expensive considering that, the carbon fiber blur is nice, but isn't a super steel although I really like 14c and I've never sharpened a recurve, and the adamas is a beast of a knife, but may be a little big.

If your gut has you leaning towards a 950, I'd say get one. The 950 is a great knife.

That said, I love my Southard and while it's expensive, it feels like it's worth it.

Well I tell you what, as far as I'm concerned the only thing that's more fun than an Axis to play with is an auto or bali. Benchmade makes fine knives and I don't think you can go wrong with any of them. In fact, a Ritter Grip is one of the next knives I want crossed off my list- just waiting for the right one to come up in the exchange.

If you want a beefy knife that's a little smaller than the Adamas check out to ZT0550.
Rick Hinderer designed Ti framelock for only $145 shipped from Kershawguy.

If you like to play with your knife, you must go AXIS...553 griptilian....though it not g10, material is super lite, blade 154cm weight ratio Vs. the handle makes it super smooth, super easy to open and flick close....many over look the actual mobility of a knife...I can say the griptilian I have now is faster than my Auto OTF double action with a SNAP. I was STUNNED and impress by this knife...and for The price, you cannot beat it....don't get mixed with the mini version...

here's a few pictures for your reference....

this is the 553 Tanto blade

the 551 is drop point...

555 is thumb hole...

Here's my other one, more beefy...the 522 black series Ultra Presido...it's more bulky...takes a harder flick of the wrist to close. BTW: it's hollow ground....

i have a 275 and a pm2, and handled the rift. they are all super great knives you can absolutely close and open the pm2 one handed just as fast as and axis lock and the 275 ive beat up to hell but it still keeps on ticking just a bit on the heavy side compared to the other ones youve mentioned. im feinding for a rift at the moment just dont have the funds unfortunately, good luck picking one!

what size blade is on the presidio

The 522 has a ~3.5" blade, but it comes in 440C. At around the same size blade in about half the weight you can get the superior (albeit smaller handled) 940/943 in S30V, a better steel altogether.

Of your original options, I think the 950 and PM2 are bulletproof choices, you'd have a hard time going wrong with either. I have both and prefer the 950, but I'm biased towards the axis lock ease of use.

The Southard is sold right around $245, so that one seems out of your range. It is, however, a great knife.
I would suggest the PM2. It is my favorite design; the compression lock is wonderful to experience.

i'm really liking the pm2, but it seems impossible to find unless you're willing to pay top dollar. I've been looking at a manix 2, but I heard something was wrong with the locks on the early ones...not so sure now. wish it didn't have a leaf blade. what is one of the cheapest benchmades that still has a blade over 3.25
