I've always been fascinated by knife sets, meaning anything that involves more than just a knife alone. I guess the first knife sets would have been simple knife and fork combos used in Roman times or earlier, but I'm thinking more about various knife sets from the 1800s onward. There are quite a variety of combinations available from around the world during the mid 1800s to present day. Mostly though, these sets seem to revolve around eating or tools, and both present many wonderful examples throughout time. Enclosed is an ad from 1895 showing some "Traveling Sets", and a couple of actual knife set examples. One is a tool set from Henry Sears which dates to the very early 1900s. Henry Sears (not the same as Sears & Roebuck) was a good old American cutlery name, but the set was contracted out to Prussia/Germany which was quite common at that time. It has a folding blade within a wood handle which accepts the various tools in the other side of the handle. The other one is a Schrade Boy Scout camping set which has a patent date of 1-27-42. Please ad pictures, thoughts, and comments, and sorry if this topic has already been covered.

Those are incredible sets Herder  Most of the sets I see are either ladies reticules or else the cheap Richards tool sets, much like the Imperial ones.

I recently picked up this Slot Knife by John Watts

This Joseph Rodges shaving set is a favorite from my collection. I am still on the lookout to complete the set with the last pair of scissors but no luck just yet:(
I am looking forward to seeing pictures of other sets!

Lovely to see that set again Ernie

Nice sets Jack, and I enjoy seeing any such combinations. Is there a name on the hobo knife?
Here is a Colonial pic-nic set from the 1950s.

Fantastic set and I hope you find the missing scissors. Enclosed is a Joseph Rodgers cut from c. 1895 showing nearly the same set with the second set of scissors sitting on top of the smaller set.

Cool thread. Fantastic sets, everyone.

I picked up this Utica set a little while back. The tools really lock in quite securely.

Nice tool kits, guys. Here's a variation that uses a plier knife as the handle for the interchangeable parts.

Very nice set and in great condition. Utica seemed to have offered these types of tool sets for many years.

Wow, great sets guys

Thanks my friend. It's by John Watts

Another fantastic scan  I have several Rodgers Quill Knives, one of which is like the one shown.

Nice set :) Charlie C gifted me a knife the same as this (by Imperial), but I hadn't realised it was part of a set

Thanks for the name Jake. Hugo Berns sure made a lot of interesting sets.

Nice Scout set Wazu.

Enclosed is a unique set including a fishing knife from "Richards" of Sheffield and hanging scale from around the 1960s.
