Hello.
Im pretty new here, haven't posted anything here yet. Just enjoy reading about the peanut and other caseknives. :)
Just now I started to wonder what you guys use to sharpen your knives.
So, what do you use?

Regards
Morten

Right now using water stones but will be upgrading to Ken Onion Work Sharp on Thursday. Super stoked.

For an inexpensive option I like the lansky delux turn box with pre drilled holes to hold the rods.
My favorite, although very expensive is the wicked edge system. Goes from 100 grit diamond to 1k ceramic
Then even has leather. Once you set the edge, touchups are fast and easy resuming the previous settings.

Welcome.

I use a carborundum stones, Arkansas stones, ceramic and diamond rods as well as strops. All freehand.

I started out with a simple Norton combination stone then I moved to the Sharpmaker. I became interested in sharpening as kind of a hobby unto itself and ended up with an EdgePro Apex.

Now Im back at using the Norton combination stone again. With the experience I gained from all of the above I can now get a good edge using the Norton stone and it only takes a few minutes versus hours of tinkering with the above systems. OTOH, sometimes it is fun to bust out the EdgePro and get a mirror edge just for fun, even if it disappears after a little bit of cutting.

DMT Duofold extra fine and coarse and a leather strop with metal polish to finish off. Eze lap diamond hone in the field.

~ DMT Deluxe Aligner system with all diamond stones.
~ Spyderco Sharpmaker with optional CBN and Ultra Fine rods.
~ Homemade strops

I use the Sharpmaker and strops for normal maintenance. They're just so much easier and faster to setup, use, and put away.

The DMT Aligner is used mostly for serious work like reparir, restoration, and reprofiling.

The same Norton IB8 stone that I got about 40 years ago. Good work horse stone. I have other stones that I use but the Norton is the one that does the majority of the sharpening.

Started with a Sharpmaker and now have Norton 1000/8000 grit waterstone. Making progress :)

I have many systems but I prefer to freehand. I use a Norton India combination stone, Arkansas stones, and shapton Japanese waterstones. I always finish with a strop

freehand, 100% natural stones arkies, bbw for final dmt diamonds for the bevel set.

Edge Pro Apex for sharpening. Spyderco Sharpmaker for touch ups. Leather strop in between so they don't have to touch the stones as often.
