Recently bought a Himalayan Imports Micro Mini Bowie. I really like this knife but it came dull. The dullest knife I’ve ever received, hands down. I’ve tried sharpening it on my Spyderco Sharpmaker. I’ve tried strropping it. I’ve gotten nowhere with it . Think it’s 5160 spring steel. Anyone know someone good I can send it to have it professionally sharpened? Not sure why this one is giving me such problems 🤷‍♂️

I bet they'd know in the HI subforum.

Try sharpening it freehand, beginning with a fine file to set the bevel.
I’m an admittedly terrible knife sharpener. I’ll work on freehand sharpening down the road but think I need someone who knows what they are doing with this one

A) First correct Factory FUBAR
B) Create a nice straight bevel
C) Massage that bevel to the edge you want ...

My first guided / fixed angle sharpener was just a cheap plastic do that ! But it worked !
my first upgrade was to mount it to a board . Fixed a lot of issues that did ..
My next upgrade was diamond inserts .. And I have never looked back !

Spyderco Sharpmaker = I don't like it .. I tried something similar 30 + Years ago .. Ended up in a drawer .. Then a decade later in the rubbish bin !
Just hand sharpening on a wet stone was better .. Or a Eze-Lap Diamond sharpener ( This is what I ended up using for many decades ) ..
The transition to guided sharpening ( fixed angle ) for me has been what I call a natural progression ..
And has given me the ability to chase edge retention in a more precise and controlled way . ( Repeatable )

Sharp is the first stage , then you progress to the 2nd stage / or stays sharp ..
If there is a 3rd stage , it might be ........ What ever it is !

I recommend Wicked Edge sharpener systems. I've never regretted buying mine. I can put perfectly beautiful sharp bevels on my knives, chisels, and scissors.
