Sharpening:
Your own personal sharpening pad.

While you're at the building supply store go to the vinyl floor tiles section and buy a couple of the 12"X12" floor tiles that have the adhesive(sticky) backing(about .98 cents each.

Pick up some wet or dry 320,600,800 and ultrafine(2000) grit paper. Make sure you leave the backing on the tile. Cut each floor tile into a 3" strip. You should have 4 strips. Cut your sandpaper into 3" strips. Now pull the backing off of the tile exposing the sticky side and stick the back side of your strip of sandpaper
on it with the grit facing out.

I put a different size grit on each of the four strips of tile and work the edge down to razor sharpness. NOTE:Do not draw your knife edge towards you or you will most surely cut into your sandpaper. Always push the edge away like you would using a razor and a leather strop.

Put your pad on top of a 2X4 and you have a perfect custom made sharpening tool.

Cool idea, I've heard of glueing sandpaper to paint sticks and leather, but the self adhisive sounds like an easiser way to make a strope.

Hi Will52100,
I was able to put a razor edge on three pocket knives and a small Kukri while watching TV last night.

As I just figured out this arrangement a couple of days ago, I'm still refining it.

One thing I've learned: Don't take that adhesive covering off in an area with grit or dirt or you'll have to throw it away.

I peel the old sandpaper strip off and immediately replace it with another, being careful not to let anything touch that adhesive.

From what I can determine, it looks like that adhesive will last many times and it bonds to the sandpaper perfectly.

It is very easy to use the pad if you put it on top of a piece of 2X4 board. :)

I checked out Home Depot and they have the tiles for .29 each but they're very thin.

Not sure which will make the best pad yet.Gotta test'em out for a while.
