I have several pocket knives and camp knives laying around that all need sharpened. And every time I try to sharpen them they never get sharper than dull. :)

I am also concidering takeing up knife makeing for a hobby so knife sharpening is going to be something that I need to learn.

HELP!

I have come accross two things that I am intrested in and I would like your opinions

Edge Pro system

Here is some good info from a premier knife knut.

The sharpeners you have listed are A+. Take a look at the Spyderco Sharpmaker also for easy use and storage and able to sharpen about any size and blade type including serrated. Reasonably priced and comes with an instructional DVD.

The Sharmaker is very good and is quite easy to use and would therefore be my recomendation. The Edge Pro is another good system however, it is harder to use.

If your knives are really dull the Sharpmaker is probably going to make you bang your head agenst the wall. A good way around this is get a coarse diamond hone and leen it up on the Sharpmaker rod for the angle. Or get a Edgepro, Lansky, DMT clamp, or any other system that has real coarse hones for it. Also read everything you can about sharpening you find, and I do mean everything. Here is a good start.

A knifemaker who can not sharpen by hand is like a mechanic who can't change a tire. Get a few good stones and practice on junk knives.
