Hi everyone,

I'm looking into purchasing either the edge pro system or the wicked edge system.
Would love some input from you guys on which one is best. Will use mainly for Chris reeve knives.
I have the spyderco triangle sharpener and it's fine but I'm really not good at this. Not user friendly enough for me...:( (I know special needs here...)
Also where can you find them at a reasonable price or used?

Thanks in advance for all the help!

Hello Kinagoo ,
If you need user friendly , Wicked Edge is the way to go . Had an Edge Pro , and could not master it . I am a bit of a klutz .

Hi,
i have had the Sharpmaker for about two years now and wasn´t able to put a razor like edge on my knife until last week. My sharpening movements were to fast and uncontrolled. Last week i did just slow and controlled movements.....well my Tenacious can almost split hair now :). Just keep trying.

Kind regards,

Andre

See, that sounds just sad to me when you can go from butter knife to being able to split hairs in about 5-10 mins. 2 years of wasted time and effort and still getting subpar results.

Well i don´t use the Sharpmaker all the time. I tried many methods like benchstones, mouspad with sandper etc. Just try it with slow and controlled movements and perhaps you can save some money (or get a new knife instead). And you need some time. No sharpening job is done in 10 minutes.

Kind regards,

Andre

Those were my impressions... Wicked edge seems a little easier to use, I like the fact that you do both edges at once. My OCD side keeps telling me I did more on one side than the other on the sharpmaker. For some reason it's hard to apply the same amount of pressure on both sides.
Thanks for the input! I will keep thinking...

Absolutely False. Watch this video. It's a little over 12 minutes long. He does some talking and dulls the knife first, so i'd say that you can definately go from absolutely dull to hair popping sharp in well under 10 minutes. If you are anything like Richardj, you can go from dull to hair popping sharp in about 3 minutes.

There is a certain appeal however to being able to hand sharpen a blade with stones. I'm only 1% toward mastering the skill and can occasionally get the edge shaving sharp. Barely! I debated for a long time about jigs and guide rods and decided that since I dont plan on taking them with me into the woods, some basic skills were needed first. Maybe I'll try the Edge Pro when I mastered the freehand stones.
