Hello this is my first post :).

I would like to know how to make a knife/dagger sheat. I want to make one with 2 pieces of 3mm leather on top of each other.

Eric.

Welcome....

When I made my first sheath, it was a kit that I had purchased from Tandy Leather. Already cut, punched, and with all the pieces to put together a basic sheath.

I found these a good place to start, but they don't always match up with the knife size. So, I went out and bought a side of leather, some basic tools, dyes, and started to make my own. You can to, it's pretty easy to make basic leather sheaths.

You can get real involved with buying tools, leather, parts, etc.

eleathersupply.com is a site that came up in a search, and it looks like they have the tools and parts (kits too) to get you going. I haven't used them so I don't know how they are, if they ship overseas, etc. You'll have to figure that out yourself.

Again, I say try a kit, then you'll want to take it to the next level.

Good luck.

Glenn

BTW, there are some outstanding craftsmen on these forums that do great work with sheathmaking. You could also order a sheath from them.

The Brisa site has a few tutorials, which might have some good hints in them. I don't remember if they had a dagger sheath featured spesifically.

Thanks glennbad, i want to make one myself and don`t know what measurements i should take into account as not to cut the threads that holt the sheat together. Or other things that i didn`t think of.

Here you can see what i have been doing in my spare time sofar. :)

Gee, Eric....You should be giving me instructions
Very nice work.

Well anyway, when planning a project, I always cut big and then trim down to size. I make a paper template that is a minimum of 3/8" to 1/2" larger on the edges than the knife itself. If the knife is especially thick or curved, account for more room. I work in thick hide, so bends and pockets take a little more material. Keep in mind that these sheaths will stretch and bend some over time and use, so sometimes a little tight is good on the fit. I make very basic sheath designs, so I tend to use wax thread for stitching and then rivets for corners/edges. I find that my sheaths evolve quite a bit from the original design to the finished product. That may be just poor planning on my part, though.

As a beginner, I'm sure there are better ways to lay it all out. That's half the fun, though; figuring it all out.

Thanks for sharing.

Thanks you Glenn :)
I have been asking around on other sites for this question of mine and i get a piture of how to proceed. Its 3 peices of leather, the middel one would be thicker than the outside layers. The middel one has a cutout of the form of the knife or dagger witch protects the thread from being cut by the knife. Then the pieces are glued together and stitched, and u can use rivets also.

I`m making a sheat for someone in January, when its done i`ll show a pics.

I want to thank you 2 for your input. :)
