Knife Sheath – over/under/over or under/over/under when looping on to your belt?

Is there a right way to loop you knife sheath to you belt?

I have a leather sheath, with the normal two slits for the belt to pass through. Should I have the knife handle resting against the belt or against the sheath?

Currently I have the handle against the sheath, to protect my belt from the knife blade when inserting or removing.

How does everybody else do it?

When I wear my Camillus PSK, I put on the sheath under-over-under per your description, where the handle is in contact with the belt. That makes the sides of the sheath sort of curve around and cup the handle, which I like. I tried it the other way and it didn't seem right somehow.

With my old pilots survival knife I did it the oposite way, with the knife handle against the sheath. This prevented the sides from curling, which I hate. In the end there is no right or wrong way, just personal preferance.

I'm not keen on the curling you get if the edge flaps are on the outside of the belt.

I may make a new sheath that hooks on to a army style webbing belt. I already have two NATO water bottles connected to this and they use two hooks to latch into holes in the webbing. This would be more for extended hikes rather than a walk around the woods,
