I made a sheath for my Appalachia Special on my day off and thought I would post some pictures. It is another dangler sheath which is my favorite style, and usually what I make for myself. A dangler sheath hangs well on the strap of my possibles bag and also on my belt. I used Pull-the-DOT snaps for the dangler strap and sheath loop and I prefer these most of the time on my personal sheaths. They are very secure, easy on and off the belt, and allow the stainless D ring to be removed for standard belt carry. Using the snap also leaves no exposed stitching on the inside of the sheath. I thought black would be a good contrast in color with the light Olivewood handles. I sliced off a small piece of maple limb for the lanyard bead.
This picture shows the edge of the sheath which was left un-burnished and treated with Veritas honing compound. This makes a handy field strop without carrying any additional gear. On a pouch style sheath the fire steel loop leaves a little less room for stropping but it still works fine. Several years ago a local knife maker had me make a few sheaths for him like this for knives he was giving to friends for Christmas gifts which is where I got the idea.
