Knife Sheath Project

The Bark River Adventurer II Neck Knife has great potential for neck carry. At 3.8 oz, it is well suited for it. However the sheath they give you with the knife is too heavy imho. It is really thick and has an earth magnet sewn into it, making it heavy and impractical for carry around the neck for me. So, my goal was to make a sheath for neck carry, as thin and light as possible. I wet formed it out of 6oz leather. The knife locks in and deploys like Kydex. I left part of one side of the sheath not sewn to achieve this ease of deployment, and I can easily add a stitch or two if I need to in the future to tighten it up after use, if it needs it. Right now it locks up nice, and I am satisfied that I have achieved my goal. What do you guys think. This sheath is my fourth self designed leather sheath project, and my third knife sheath. What do you think?

Nice job. Thinking outside the box. Yep just keep making more things and you'll get better and better. I'm curious to see how long term retention is on this sheath. Ya might think about a "Loveless welt" on this type of project.

I like Dave's suggestion of a Loveless Welt rather than omitting stitches.
What concerns me, is I don't see any welt at all. If this is the case, the knife will eventually cut itself out of the sheath, sometimes sooner than later.

Now that I've looked into it, the loveless welt seems like an excellent idea. Right now I'm real interested in the neck, inverted and scout style sheaths and I'm experimenting. I need to learn don't try and "reinvent the wheel." So, thanks for the encouragement and ideas. I really appreciate it.
