Knife shipping gripe.

I have purchased more than a couple of knives here on the forums. I have a gripe.

Please package as if the knife were being shipped to yourself. A priority VHS Box is ideal for most folders and cost no more to ship and THE BOX IS FREE. A little tape on the edges helps.

People not only want the knife in good shape but also the box it came in. Why stick it in an envelope and not even add a little tape to the seams. It cost the same to ship.

The key here is to Package as if it were being mailed to yourself.
Thanks

I'll add a few things to that -

Copfish had the excellent suggestion to put the knives in a (free) self-addressed Priority envelope before packing them in a box. Those things are tough! You can't possibly tear them, although they can be cut. This way if the box should be opened accidentally, its contents are not immediately obvious and are held together, marked for easy return.

I also got some bubble-pack at Staples and have been wrapping all knives in this. Even if they are jostled, crushed, or otherwise mishandled, i can't imagine a knife wrapped in this stuff coming to harm.

On a final note, Priority boxes are great ('cause they're easy to use and free), but they (especially the small ones) crush open very easily. Nearly every one I receive has squashed open so a nearly knife-sized opening is visible on each side! Simply wrap the sides with tape and this problem is eliminated.

Bo said it well - pack as if the knife were coming to you!

Be careful shipping fixed blades. I've had 3 shipped to me and each package had the tip of the blade sticking out the end. No damage to the blade but it made me wince just looking at it. Take an old wine cork and seat it firmly on the tip of the blade. Wrap the rest in bubble wrap. Tape is cheap...use lots of it. Reinforce every edge of the package.
