All,
I am going to be doing some training in Petaluma, CA for about three weeks and was wondering if anyone knows of any good knife shops around there. Someplace to get hands on with some quality knives.
Thanks!

nordic knives in is solvang, which may be on the way for you if you are driving.

tadgear is in sf.

there is also a shop on the sf pier, but i cant remember the name.

i think you are thinking of "we be knives" ?

and also if you are coming north from san diego you should check out plaza cutlery in costa mesa.

could be. pretty good selection, but prices were high.

plaza cutlery is definitely worth a stop. great selection.

if you pass through the san fernando valley, recon 1 also has a good selection, but very high prices. they will haggle though.

There is a pretty good knife shop in Petaluma; can't remember the name, but it's in central downtown (not too hard to find).

If your driving all the way up Nordic in Solvang carries some high end and custom, the town is pretty neat to visit also.

"We Be Knives" is on Pier 39, and TAD Gear is close to the airport on your way into town if you fly up.

There are two Mall stores in Santa Rosa (depending on traffic 20-30 min. drive) just north of Petaluma. There's also a "antique" dealer in Petaluma, first floor is consignment booths, but the basement is full of interesting old military gear.

Try here...

There are a couple of decent gun stores and sporting goods stores in the Petaluma area. Try those as well.

For those that do not know Petaluma is about an hour north of San Francisco so some of the areas mentioned (San Fernando Valley, Costa Mesa, Solvang, etc.) are several hundred miles south of Petaluma. You can find some good knives a bit closer. :)

Just for fun hit the mom and pop hardware store just off the 101 near In and Out Burger. There were still a few USA Schrade old timers, and Uncle Henrys there. It was a year ago, but who knows. The prices are not fantastic, but at least you can see what you are getting. I will be in Petaluma in late July for our quarterly meetings. It is a beautiful place. There are some hikng trails along the river bed as well. I did not have time to walk it, however, I wanted to.
