I will be going to Montreal in a few weeks and wanted to know if there are any reputable dealers in the area that I could check out.

Thanks.

I don't know of any dealers near there that carry great stuff. But there are some great makers out that way, although you may have to drive a bit. Have you checked out the Canadian Knifemakers Guild website? They have a pretty complete listing.

If you want a good deal on known US makers, you might want to check out LeBaron on St-Laurent Street.

You won't find anything out of the ordinary, and they don't have that great a selection, but they carry Spyderco, BM, CS and Buck, among a few others... The good thing about them is that their average price is usually equal to the suggested retail, but in Canadian funds! As an example, they sell the Spyderco Native FRN for $75C. Since you get over 40% better mileage out of your american buck, that's a pretty good deal.

By the way, Montreal has much better things to look at than knives. I have to admit that I'm biased, but Quebec women are highly addictive and can make you forget all about knives!

On Saturday, exchanged some money at a bank in Vancouver -- Scotia Bank, I believe -- got $1.54 rate. The border crossing exchange on Friday was $1.529.

The only knife with a decent price at the single knife store I found in Vancouver, was the Grohmann Survival for $86 Canadian. Even with the exchange, every other knife in the store was more expensive than on the web. Hope you have better luck in Montreal.
