Hi,

I'm going to LA and Las Vegas in the coming weeks. Does anyone know any decent places to shop/visit for knives.

Thanks.

Debs.

I don't know about LA county but in Orange County there's Plaza Cutlery in the South Coast Plaza (a big upscale mall in Costa Mesa, close to where the 405 & 55 meet). Best selection I've seen in a brick and mortar shop.

If you are in the San Fernando Valley the bast knife shop around is Recon 1 they are in Woodland Hills they carry every line of knives and many customs I have always said it they dont have it you dont need it.

A few malls in the L.A. area have a store called Advance Cutlery. They are decent but nothing spectacular. Much better than the selection at Target or Wal-Mart but not quite what you'd get at a bigger nicer knife store. These malls have an Advance Cutlery:

Lakewood Center Mall, Lakewood
Los Cerritos Center, Cerritos
Puente Hills Mall, City of Industry
Montebello Town Center, Montebello
Santa Anita Fashion Park, Arcadia

I'll put in another vote for Recon 1. Good guys and a great selection of production stuff, with a few customs mixed in as well.

Plaza Cutlery is also great if you're headed down into Orange County. Not as many production pieces as Recon 1 but probably a few more custome pieces. They sponsor one of the hottest custom shows around.

If you are up for a drive up the coast a ways, be sure to visit Solvang and see Nordic knives. Not exactly in LA, but you can be there and back in an afternoon if you're determined. Nordic has probably the best selection of customs I've seen in a brick and morter store. They also sponsor a custom show around March or April every year and it's awesome. Nordic Knives is well worth the trip.

The first-floor knife store in the Arcadia mall has an excellent selection- Chris Reeve, William Henry, Surefires, standard Benchmade and Spyderco fare, the old man behind the counter who knows his stuff, cute chick selling kitchen cutlery... ya dig?:D

There's also a House of Knives (I think) on the upper level, you may gladly pass that up.

Depending on where you are coming from, it's on the Baldwin Ave. exit on the I-210

I second the info above. For run of the mill stuff and a few limited runs go to Advance Cutlery. For more one of a kind stuff go to Plaza Cutlery. This is where I go to buy some of my high end stuff. This way you get to see the action, blade centering and lock up that you just can never get over the net.

Looks like I'll start my search for new additions at Plaza Cutlery being as I'll be based in Orange County.

Thanks for all your replies,

Debs. :)

I'd forget about Advanced Cutlery, they sell everything at MSRP and above....even the cheap knock offs they sell are way over priced. One of my friends use to work over at the one in Montebello but they closed it down due to lack of sales. Gee I wonder why.

If your gonna be here on the 26th and 27th Nov, there will be a gun show in Costa Mesa with a few knife dealers. Prices can vary at the show and you'll have from productions to customs knives but it depends on who will show up. Plus it's not too far from Plaza Cutlery.

I visited Recon 1 yesterday. Very nice selection. The store is not fancy or pretty but they've got a lot of great products. Prices are good for brick and mortar. If you cannot wait for delivery and are in the Valley, get it here.

Were you surprised at how much they have at Recon 1? I was, the first time I went there. The next largest selection at a store in the Los Angeles area has less than half their selection.

Hi folks,

I took your advice and have been to Plaza Cutlery twice now and on the second visit my partner bought me a Limited Edition Buck 526 in Mother of Pearl and Abalone, it's gorgeous, sorry no pics yet.
I must add that this was only after he had picked out a this http://www.plazacutlery.com/Reeves/Reeve1460314FRONTb.htm and another Case Tiny Texas Toothpick (Select) and a Buck 525 for himself. I walked out and left him there when he started taking a couple of photos of the shop, so he can post them on British Blades when he gets home.
We were both well impressed with the shop and the staff who spent so much time showing us all the knives we were interested in and will definitely be shopping there again.

Wait, let me get this straight, California allows it's citizens to own knives? Is there a waiting period when you purchase? Do you need a permit? do you have to register them?

Actually California is really good about knives, folders of any length can be kept concealed, but fixed blades have to be unconcealed. Plaza cutlerly is a great place with a lot of different knives they let you try out, but they're expensive, and the staff is not too knowledgable about the laws.
