Okay guys, I'm out here celebratin' my little sister's graduation (got cool guy points for showin up in my Dress Blues), and now have time to check out the shops around here. So far, I'm coming up real short.

I've Checked out the Harbor House out on Monterey's Fisherman's wharf, all pretty much United and Pakistan stuff (ecch! but great staff!!). Merle's knives up in the Capitola Mall is WAAAAAY overpriced (sheezus!), and we don't even need to explain We Be Knives up on Pier 39 in SF. (@#$$@!!!) So, any suggestions from y'all would be nice.

I've planned to hit Solvang (Nordic Knives) this weekend. Where else do I go??? Rumor has it there is/was a shop in Carmel? Walt Welch, anyone from the BAKCA, fellow knifeknuts, please let me know where to get my fix!! I'm suffering from "lackoknifitis"!!

Try a search on the Yahoo yellow pages. Just type in your current 20 and ask for knife shops. If there is a shop within a hundred miles of where you are standing it will tell you.

As for knife shops in the Bay Area, you might want to check out The Outpost, in Capitola. They have a very large selection of knives including Benchmade, Emerson, Spyderco, and Masters of Defense. Unfortunately, they are somewhat expensive as you will have to pay retail. Triple Aught Design, in Oakland also has an excellent selection of knives ( especially high-end knives). They do not have a "showroom" since they are primarily an internet based company, but they will sell/show knives out of their shop in Oakland if you call them. Siegel's Guns, in Oakland, also has a small selection of knives, but they usually only have Benchmade, Emerson, Cold Steel, and Kershaw. I hope that helps.

Hi tobii3,

You might like the Outpost, a small but jam packed knife store "in the village" part of Capitola. Prices weren't that bad, considereding. I just bought a William Henry knife there this weekend.

And up Rt.1 in Davenport is the David Boye Knife Gallery, with lots of pretty and useful knives. I bought one there too! (Father's Day coming up you know...)

Enjoy!

I HOPE there is still a nice knife shop in Carmel. Carmel Cutlery. It would be on Dolores & 6th. Mid block. It would be a small little shop, and would carry handmades from some fine makers if's still there. I have not been up there in several years.

Thanks guys!!

Right now, looks like I'll aim for Carmel Cutlery first thing tomorrow, possibly Paul Fox's on Ocean Ave (still there?), and figure out where the heck The Outpost is in Capitola....okay, how do I get there from Margaritaville / Mr Toots coffeshop??? Or is THAT the village area already??

I had to look at a map to figure out where Davenport was! I thought it was near LA!! This could be a good week after all!!

Tobii3, just out of curiosity, what's up with We Be Knives? I was thinking of stopping by there on my next west coast swing.

Thanks,

Art

There's "Edge of the World" in Oakland's Jack London Square.Got lots of goodies but evert thing is retail.

Both Paul Fox's and Carmel Cutlery should still be open. I was in both of them last October and bought a small, decorated Sebenza through Carmel Cutlery. Paul Fox's and a CRK Tanto Sebenza in stock.

I was just out in SF last week and happened to check out Pier 39 and We Be knives. They are selling a lot of junk, but they do have the good ones. Lots of Benchmade, CRKT, and Spyderco, as well as a few Higher end knives. A few foreign makes that I am not familiar with.
I think what tobii3 was implying about We Be, is their prices. Right around retail, if not a little higher. Not bad if you are a tourist from out of the country, but with all that is available, I wouldn't go there to make a purchase.

Well, I made it to Carmel Cutlery and Paul Fox Inc. and I have this to say....

For Carmel Cutlery, y'all need to drop in and say hi to Tanya. More later in the TGBU area.

For Paul Fox Inc. Well, it was nice, but not what I would call a knife store, more of a store that sells knives along with everything else. Oh yeah, they STILL have that Tanto Sebenza.....

We'll see what tomorrow brings....

Will definitely try to check out the Gallery. I was actually able to handle some of his knives today, and I do like the ones I was able to play with!!

Well, today's voyage was interesting. Made it to David Boye's shop in Davenport, William Henry's main office in Santa Cruz, and finished up at The Outpost in Capitola.

And, as luck would have it, I have to go back tomorrow BECAUSE I RAN OUT OF TIME!!!
