I will be on vacation in Luray, VA come Sept. from the 6-17. We rented a great house for our time down there. Anybody know of a few good B&M stores that I can visit? I would also like to meet up with a few VA BFC members one day while I'm down there.

Well, I am in Northern Va. Perhaps you could wander East to Fair Oaks Mall at I-66 and Rt. 50. There is a decent Chesapeake Knife & Tool store there, and we might be able to drive out Rt. 50 to Middleburg to the Red Fox Inn or out to the Plains to the Rail Stop for lunch. These are both very much Va. Horse Country type places. I could also try to meet you somewhere in Warrenton. From Luray, you take Rt. 211 East over the Blue Ridge into Warrenton. If you go North on Rt. 50, you will pick up I-66 at Gainesville and can come on in to Fair Oaks. There are some nice restaurants there and just east of Fair Oaks Mall, on hte East side of I-66 is the NRA weapons museum, a really nice one. My email is hughf_us@yahoo.com and perhaps we can work something out for one of those days.

P.S. If cars are any interest to you, do go through the car museum at the Luray Caverns, it is a very nice one. Also go West on 211 to New Market, Va. to the Battlefield Park and Museum. That is where the Virginia Military Institute cadets turned the tide in a battle in May, 1864. It is quite inspiring and a very nice museum. There is also a very nice restaurant in New Market called the Southern Kitchen that specializes in regional delicacies. Try their peanut soup, their Southern Fried Chicken, and their Virginia Ham. You will come to understand why these dishes are consdered delicacies, as they are done very well there.

The first thing you need to know is that is pronounced "Lou-Ray".
The second thing you need to know is that VA is weak on quality knife shops. Cheasapeak K&T has a good selection, @ MSRP or better. Alchemy knives is located in The Winchester Mall, Winchester VA, approx 45 min north on I 81 @ State route 50. The owner somtimes posts on BF. The selection is OK, price is around MSRP.
There used to be a guy who came to gun shows up and down the vally and had a shop in Covington, VA (1 hr or so south on I 81). Tommys Knives, but I havn't seen him recently and have no idea how to contact him or what his exact location is.

I can, however, make a resturant recommendation: Four and Twenty Black Birds Bed and Breakfast, which ironically has neither beds nor serves breakfast, weekend brunch is as close as they come. It is located in Flint Hill VA, about 45 min east of Luray (take State route 211 east to 522 north). Not "cheap", but worth it.
Email me as the time draws near.

I-81 runs north/south in the Shenandoah Valley and is some 30-45 minutes West of Luray. You would take Rt. 211 to New Market, and the Battlefield is right off of I-81, the Southern Kitchen is on Rt. 11, the old north/south road that used to be called the Valley Turnpike.

Remster,
I have gone camping in a little town called Front Royal which is right near where you're going every summer for about 15 years. Try some of the pawn shops and antique shops in Front Royal and Winchester, you never know what kind of knives you'll find.
