knife/short sword idea

I don't know if something like what I am about to suggest has been brought up before, but I've been searching for something like this for a while.

My idea is to turn that shape into in dagger/short sword form with a tarwar-type handle and brass/steel guard, maybe 20" overall length. To keep with the aesthetics, each of the three edges, 120 degrees apart, would perhaps gently curve into a tip rather than being straight edges like in the picture. That way it could cut/chop in addition to piercing. It would be more of a weapon than a tool. I have no idea if the kamis have tried to make something like this before or not

I know it may not make that much sense explained like this, but if you have any suggestions or questions, please state/ask them. Thanks!

If you can draw it up, I am sure they can make it for you. They are pretty talented that way.
I would think such a chunk of metal at your 20" would be extremely heavy however.
This triangular type blade is actually something that has seen much use in bayonets.
Many rifles bear a triangular cross section bayonet, especially in the Soviet Block.

Hmm, I bet you're right about the weight. Maybe 13-15 inches overall would be better then again, the handle would be about 4-5 inches so 8-10 inches of metal wouldnt be terrible, I wouldn't think.

Broken Eye if you haven't been welcomed to the H.I. Forums yet then let me do so.  :D

Not to pee on your parade my friend but this idea, as fun as it could be, doesn't have much at all in being a practical idea. First of all its balance would make it rather unwieldy I would think... And if the balance doesn't I'm afraid the configuration of, three edges, 120 degrees apart surely would as I'm pretty sure it would be twisting in your hand.

Then something else to think about is if it had three edges its depth of cut would be severely hampered.
Another thing about the three edges is that when you went to chop something there would be two edges acting as sort of an airfoil that would create a certain amount of drag on the blade. If it were enough to create a problem I don't know but at the three blade's intersection there would indeed be a limited depth of cut as mentioned above. :(
Another thing is with the Tarwar handle only one edge would be practical to use unless there were someway to adjust the handle in the same 120 degree increments as the blade.
This might be practical in a CNC shop where all the angles could be controlled by computer, but for the kamis to control that degree of precision is asking quite a lot in my way of thinking.;) :D

This design is best applied for killing people although it can be quite a long and painful death. Why it works so well is that as the weapon is withdrawn from the wound the wound closes up which severely limits its ability to bleed freely on the outside where it could be more easily treated.
However it still bleeds profusely on the inside which tremendously aids in infection setting in and makes it extremely hard to treat, surgery is almost always required to save someone injured by such a weapon. IIRC this style of weapon was outlawed by the Geneva Convention although I don't recall when.:o

I have a very wicked push dagger made like what he is describing.
I think I had things wrong when I thought of the bayonets.
I think this is more what he is describing...

I don't have a shot of the thing from the side, I will see about taking it tomorrow.
