March 25&26, International Knife Show in Brno

My first show I have ever visited here in Czech Republic. I was quite surprised by the interest of general public. Even our national TV showed up.

What elese did I notice?? Almost no tactical knives, almost no other handle materials but wood and stag. Almost no custom folders.

On the other side I noticed some good quality factory folders and FB. BM, MT, Kershaw, CRKT, Emerson, CS but they were sold at very very high prices (usually double the US price).

I also noticed some very good custom fixed blades (hunters, skinners) and excellent engravings (at very reasonable prices).

I contacted some of the makers and will be posting pictures of their work on my Photopoint page as soon as they send them (the pictures) to me.

I took some pictures (with regular camera) and you can see them here: Knife Show Pictures

Enjoy!!

Would love to have attended that! Never been there but it's been a dream of mine for quite some time. I had some friends that were there a couple of years ago.

This is slightly off topic but...what do you know about the BRNO 22 rifles? They used to be easy to get here but not anymore. I think they were reconditioned or something. Do they still make them? I know you can still get the highpowered BRNO rifles. I ended up buying a CZ 22 rifle. Are they made nearby?

Thanks,

David, nice pix. Thanks. BTW, there were some mighty tactical looking non-tacticals in those photos. Chisel point tantos make lousy skinners.

How difficult would it be to use one of the engravers there? Air mail from here is about $20. If they are "very reasonable", it might be worth the shipping expense. Assuming customs isn't a problem of course.

If you happen to find out anything, just email me so we don't use more BF bandwidth for off topic stuff.

Thanks,

David,

Really nice site. Great knife pics. The scenics of your area are cool, too. Beautiful.

David,
Thanks for the Pictures. I always wonder how shows are in other places. Hopefully I will be able to get a digital camera or scanner pretty soon.

I am glad you liked those pictures. I would like to get digital camera as well but they are still quite expensive here.

Regarding those engravings and shipping knives (FB) to USA. I can ship and insure the knife only up to about 60 USD - without having to go through customs. If the amount is higher I would have to drive to another city and go to customs, they would check the item and then I would be allowed to insure it for its real price. It is so much hassle that I am not really willing to do it (and I would have to take day off from my work to do it).

But - I will contact those knife-makers and post their addresses on my Photopoint page so you can contact them personally.

Thanks David. I don't blame you for not wanting to mess with that effort. But if there are some engravers there you can recommend who might want to try to work work something out, I'd be interested
