Knife Shows in Dallas, Ft. Worth, Tx???????

Anyone aware of any shows to be held in the DFW area in 2000. For some reason, I don't remember any knife shows being held in Dallas. ?? If there are none, then I may try to go up to Little Rock. Comments appreciated.

There is a Knife Show held in McKinney twice a year. It is a small show, but getting bigger each year. You can find the dates listed in the Blade magazine. The last one was just about one month ago.

As you may be aware, the Texas Knifemaker's and Collector's Association is currently being formed. There is talk that they may put a Texas show together.

Of course, the bigger gun shows have a fair amount of knife stuff - but, not enough knife stuff for the serious knife lover.

The Professional Knifemaker's Association held a show in Plano several years ago. I think that it is about time that we had another big knife show in the Dallas area.

J.Bruce Voyles sent a letter to the knife-list@swcp.com I am on and is currently trying to put a show togather for Mesquite at the rodeo ground's for aug or sept. but other than that we have one comming in austin in later month's and the one in McKinney was good for me lats time I think it's in April you might look in the top of texas website for more info http://www.topoftexas.com I think

There is no substitute for a BIG professional level knife show. The few I went to in Texas were fairly small with limited selection. Especially if you are new to high end knives, I would encourage you to travel - there really isn't any other way to appreciate what a top maker can do until you see them at a show with other top makers. Smaller shows may have one or two top makers but, it is really hard to contrast the differences on such a small sample.

I would think the trip to Little Rock would prove to be very worthwhile. Arkansas has many fine makers and should have a good "pull" for people that aren't local.

Guys, I appreciate the comments. I think I will make that Little Rock show and I will look for the other shows. I normally just make the Bigtown gunshow and it doesn't have alot of knives. Maybe Market Hall is better. TL, does Blade magazine have a website? Being a newbie, I have heard some of you guys talking about this mag, but have never seen it anywhere. Wallyworld is about the only place that I look for magazines and they didn't have it. Thanx

Big Tex, I believe that you can find the Blade Magazine at either Barnes & Noble, Borders or at the Mall Knife Store (can't think of it's name). You might call them first and see if they carry it. You will not likely find it at WallyWorld or the Grocery Store.

You should subscribe to this one, it is a good one. Lot's of tips, pictures and articles.

For what its worth, I have little trouble finding BLADE and Tactical Knives at Wal-Mart and the larger grocery stores with large magazine racks.

Big Town has gotten to be too much of a flea market to attract custom makers. Every once and a while you will find someone with a name you don't recognize.

Market Hall is definitely better because they screen folks at the table pretty hard and stick to knife and gun content better. Of the local "gun shows", Market Hall is definitely best in my experience of the last few months. Market Hall does bring out the local Texas custom makers (at least in past shows prior to Christmas).

For what it's worth, the Blade Show in Atlanta was an 1100 mile trip for me and well worth it. In fact, now that I'm out here in Arizona, I will still be there! What more can I say about that show

Sid, when is the next Atlanta show? I read some threads from some forum members that went to the last one and they indicated they had a good time. IMHO, Bigtown is a good show for guns(mabye not knives), Market Hall is probably better on guns and knives, but since I can nearly walk to Big Town, I like it. I have not been to a Rodeo Show so I don't know how they are. BTW, are Sebenza's any good. LOL

Hey do y'all know about the 2nd Annual Central Texas Knife Show? It is on the weekend of August 4,5 and 6th in Austin, Texas. There will be makers from the Guild, PKA, and other custom knife makers. Here's a link to show's page www.members.tripod.com/ctexknife
Check it out, there's also pictures from last year's show on the page. Talking to Chris Carlson, the promoter, he said it looks to be a bigger and better show than last year.

The Little Rock show is Feb. 12 and 13th. We would love to have you come up. This has gotten to be a good show. We have a number of good makers as well as we have several up and coming makers and some underated makers. So, you will find some good bargins or pick up something from somebody you have been wanting and find what is hot. This is a very informal show. We have a break room for when you want to just kick you feet up as well. This is the most fun I have at a show. Let me know if I can help you with something.
You can check out knifeart.com for info on the show. Tell Larry to send you a free pass.

I have to agree with the Market Hall being better for Knives But usualy I do OK at Big Town I allways do better in the Back Room for some reason maybe too much to look at (OR) sift through in the Frount But I get to see alot of my friend's Jeff Hollett ,Frank Roberson,John Owenby ,and several other's I like

I like the Big Town gun show in Mesquite too. I have only set up once at that show, but did very well. I have set up at about 5 other gun shows in the Dallas area, and have seen lots of custom knives at all of them. Definitley make it to the Little Rock knife show though. I will be there, and look forward to meeting you Tex.
