Hello all,

I'm not sure where exactly I should post this, as I've actually seen threads put up on this subject in at least three different areas over time...

Would it be of value to the members of this forum if there was a forum dedicated to listing the dates, times and places Knife Shows are held?

I know I tried posting recently on the Montana Knifemaker's Show, and Blade always gets a few threads started, as does Eugene, the Guild show, etc...

Would it be even possible, let alone worthwhile, to start one up on BFC? I know I'd like to see it as the MNorthwest has several shows over the year, as does the North East, South East, Texas, Cali....

What do y'all think?

I personally like the idea. ;) I'm always interested in when and where a show may be coming. To my way of thinking, based on experience as well, a knife show is the best place to purchase a knife.

TF - just drove to Wake Forest and back two weeks ago! What a trip... and given the number of shows in y'alls neck of the woods, I'd think it would really help...
I know each of the major knife mags have a column that lists shows, but I've also seen mis-information in those columns, too... I'd think that a column on BFC would allow for small, unadvertised shows to get the word out, for date/time/place corrections to hit a broader market quickly... hey... it'd be more for me to keep my eyes on, too... other than checking the For Sale forum all the time!!! LOL!!!!

Joe I agree and I applaud you for your correct usage and spelling of "y'all". Too many uninitiated (read: Northern) folks write "ya'll". Hey, don't get mad guys I'm kidding about the Northern thing, you Yankees are alright with me. :D ;)

Thanks, trane fan! In your own quaint way, you Southrons add a nice touch of dialect to our American English language! :D

(You do realize that New Yorkers provide the true, original American speech, don't you?)

All I know is that you folks who are "up there" have the accent not us!! :D :D :D ;) ;) ;)

The topic heading for Community Center is:

This area is intended for announcements, humor, off-topic subjects, planning get-togethers, and general chit chat. Blah.

That sounds like the best place for announcing upcoming shows. The problem is, posting the show now may mean the thread is on page twenty by the time showtime arrives, which isn't much help. Posting these threads as stickies would mean everything else eventually starts on page two or three!

Maybe we can have one sticky for all upcoming shows with an alphabetical or chronological list with the show's website, where we can go for detailed information.

Hey Esav,
The description for Community Center may very well also include "humor"...but, if your joke doesn't appeal to a particular mod... it will be relocated regardless of what those forum descriptions say...
So, instead of burying show announcements like you said, or cluttering columns up with stickies... I just figured the easiest way would be to have a "Shows Forum"... ... but being computer illiterate, I'm not sure how easy or difficult that would be...

And Trane Fan - "y'all" is just the correct contracted form of "you all"... so's I guess it would be spelt right which ever side of the Mason Dixon Line you find yerself...LOL!!!! GO HEELS!!! :D (PS: I was never much for spellin' anyhows, so I guess it don't make no nevermind nohow....!!! )

Well, maybe I'll get a chance to talk to my neighbor about it, and see if he can fix something up for us. Pompton Plains isn't that big a town.

Maybe just a calendar of events (knife shows) posted at the beginning of the Forums site??? The calendar could go out 6 months and be updated monthly. Can't be THAT many shows can there??

Somethin' like that would be great... but I'm thinking something that would allow posters to leave notes or updates, etc. where the public could see them and know they were probably getting fresh intel if the posts had dates...
For instance, the Northwest Knife Collectors Fall show has been cancelled this year, but it's only pretty much been the membership that has "officially" been informed - will that info get to the trade publications that may already have published the show dates and locations? I don't know if even the OKCA's calender would offer real time updates... I know they try, though. (And they put on one Heck of a show!!) I know I actually heard about the NWKC's cancellation at the Montana Show this past weekend, but the general public might not hear about it... In fact, when I went to look for info on the Montana Show, the website had the ad for the 2001 show still current... (I know website upkeep may not get as much attention if other things are pulling scarce resources away from it - and no, I won't volunteer -I'm 'puter illiterate!) ;)
Another for instance would be the slightly less formal gatherings like club dinners... maybe guests would be in town from other areas and they might like to join in (Hey Danbo - another invite ! LOL!!!) I realize "Community" might sufice, but I think a publicly accessible forum might offer a wider variety to the knife crowd as a whole...

Anyway... it's just one of those thoughts like having open cutting competitions at the independent knife shows... :(
