What do you guys usually look for in a knife when going into a knifeshow?
The you hunt for those knives that you could buy at a bargain price?
or just go for your favorite brand?or ......

I go to knife shows more to catch up with friends. But the few times I can afford to buy a knife, I look for value for the price amongst knifemaker friends and up and coming makers.

I go to check out what's new and to handle something I'm thinking about buying. I go on Saturday and check out prices. Then I go home and look on the www to compare prices. If the show is cheaper,(has never happened yet) I go back and buy.

I like to admire the art knives that you have to see and handle to appreciate, that pictures or talk online can't really describe. A lot of rare materials or old slipjoints.

Then there's the current high-end, like spending time at Darrel Ralph's table looking over knives I really want to buy, getting a feel for them.

Frankly, if you go to a brick-and-mortar and handle but don't buy, you're mocking the store's efforts and eventually, if you don't support it, it won't be there.

But a show is just that, a show, and the knifemakers know they are there to make friends and impress people with their talents. Using it as a learning and handling experience and then going home and ordering it online is still giving the knifemaker the income he needs.

Although some of them are hard to walk away from. :D
