Knife similar to CS Talwar?

Ordered a Cold Steel Talwar (http://www.ltspecpro.com/talwar-folder.html) in their May closeout sale for about $170.00, and they were out, but expected a last shipment, so I placed a backorder. I love this knife, but never did love it the $530 MSRP or the $350-ish best sale prices were running.

CS today gave me word that they won't be getting the last shipment in, so my order is cancelled, and I'm kinda bummed. :( To CS's great credit, they unexpectedly sent me an absolutely free Pocket Bushman for my trouble, but my question is:

Does anyone know of any possible Talwar alternative/similar style and quality knife in existence in the $200.00 range, i.e., w/o paying full-on custom prices? I'm not wedded to any particular manufacturer; thanks in advance for any suggestions, guys.

The Emerson Persian. Its a bit smaller and more tatically designed but has a very similar blade shape and is closer to the $120 mark...i don't really know of any folders that use the same type of materials as the Talwar and have an upswept blade shape.

Thanks, Droppoint, I actually like that the best of any Emerson design I've seen, but believe it or not, in TN you can't carry a knife for defensive purposes w/a blade longer than 4", and the Persian above has a 4.1" blade. W/a carry permit, TN allows you to openly carry 2 loaded 6-guns on a gun belt, or an AK or AR pistol, but not a knife over 4" (unless you're hunting Bambi, in which case you can carry a Katana if you want). Go figure.

Besides the upswept blade, though, the other features I liked about the Talwar were the micarta handles and the huge ball pommel to pummel the bad guy on the head. I may just give in and find the best discount I can on one on ebay or gunbroker. I d/n realize the design was truly unique until I started searching for something similar.

I am also a lover of the Talwar and Scimitar, and I was in here about six months ago asking this very same question.

The Emerson Persian is a wonderful knife, but it is hard to find. Another knife that has the curved lines of the Emerson Persian is the Benchmade Onslaught. Unfortunately, it also has a blade that is larger than your carry restrictions.

(Rules Violation.)

Wonderful, then perhaps you can warn him as well. We wouldn't want to miss out on an equal opportunities bonanza now would we?

I have a Cold Steel Talwar and a Cold Steel Scimitar that I might be willing to part with. PM me and let me know your price range and perhaps we can work something out.

Maybe if you would stick to the rules we have instead of violating them you would not have the problem. He was issued a warning also.

Not real sure about the logic of your desire to turn this area into a buying and selling forum. That is not what the discussion forums are for at all.

Not to mention selling your stuff on the backs of those who pay for that right seems a little selfish to me also.

No, Bastid is right. I made an offer without thinking about the thread I was in. It was my mistake.

BladeForums can exist because of the patronage of its paying members - it's either that or intrusive and annoying pop-up banner ads.

Sorry fellas.

Well if you don't see the logic, I'll be happy to shed light upon that.

First off, I wasn't aware of the existence of that rule, wasn't aware that the rule applied to PERSONAL dealings, and didn't expect that rule to exist in this restrictive manner.

If you simply look at my profile and compare the posting dates of the violation post and the previous post, you'll notice the 10 month gap, indicating that I wasn't here for 10 months.

The 10 month gap was spent in one CandlePowerForums, where they don't charge anybody a single dime for the "right" to sell their personal items from one person to another(don't have annoying pop up ads either, just the one non-intrusive banner relating to flashlights) . Call me spoiled if you wish.

Not sure about the logic in assuming that I'm "turning this area into a buying and selling forum", it's a personal offer from one person to another. I could understand if I made an entirely new thread on it or discussed the details of it throughout the thread, but I'm merely asking if he was interested.

I don't understand the logic of the "right to sell" rule. More specifically on the ability to enforce the rule and the morality of stopping two people from doing business in private. I mean, if I were to PM the OP directly and ask him to discuss the details via Skype/e-mail or some other method of communication(not that I'm going to thanks to the knife held at my throat), it wouldn't be realistic to prevent that unless someone reports the "violation".

I could still understand(albeit grudgingly) if it simply wasn't allowed to advertise to all what you had for sale. But PRIVATE dealings, from one person to another, are exactly as it sounds, private. None of your business. Outside of your jurisdiction.

I could understand if I was privately selling illegal drugs, but this isn't the case here. This is like stopping someone from holding a garage/yard sale of personal belongings.

Again, perhaps my 10 months spent in another hobbyist forum has spoiled me. I just don't think that my actions were in any way in violation of common sense or logic, all things considered.

Noctis.

Look around.

Do you see any ads?

No.

How do you suppose this site stays afloat?

Why do you think some people have gold or silver names, with the designation _____ member?

Christ, man, if you took a second to think logically (there goes your argument), you would have figured it out.

What you did was deal spotting.

"Hey, lookie there, a way to make some money! How convenient!"

Think about it. If that was the way this worked, we wouldn't have an ad-less forum.

No you are simply in the WRONG forum to try to make personal deals openly. Plus the terms of use of this site clearly state you are not allowed to sell on anywhere on these forums, without at least a gold membership. It's not all that hard to figure out and the rules apply to all.

Can I pile onto this too?

But it wasn't private. You posted it publicly.

You could have tried,
Email, PM, Visitor message...or a simple "hey you send me a message..."

But you didn't. You posted it publicly.

Donations is typically the most common way for any non-business site to stay afloat.

Why do you think some people have gold or silver names, with the designation _____ member?
Oh lookie, they have special titles too:
http://www.candlepowerforums.com/vb/showthread.php?t=282161

"Level 3 Benefactor" "Level 2 Benefactor" "Premier Member" "Illustrious Member"

Only thing is, they don't have to pay for typical buy/sell/trade.

Christ, man, if you took a second to think logically (there goes your argument), you would have figured it out.
Keeping in mind what was pointed out above, are you really going to go there with me?

What you did was deal spotting.

"Hey, lookie there, a way to make some money! How convenient!"
Is there something wrong with selling a person exactly what he wants? It's not like I'm a spam bot selling sex toys on a knife forum.

And looking at the definition of "deal spotting", is this activity simply not just advertising for a non-paying dealer?

Think about it. If that was the way this worked, we wouldn't have an ad-less forum.
I strongly suggest you take a look at CandlePowerForums and tell me if that one single non-pop-up banner at the top annoys you that much, honestly.

And I would remember the exact details of the terms of use after 10 months...why?

But allow me to harp on that some more.

There is no "Terms of Use" link available anywhere in plain sight for anyone to brush up on. But now that I've found it, I find no mention of any gold membership or anything to hint that I might've broken the rules.

But perhaps you and I are looking at different Terms of Use agreements:
http://www.bladeforums.com/copyright2.shtml

Just how clear is it?

Again, I could understand if I made a sales thread, but this is not the case.

A "public" public sales post would include pictures of the item in question along with a price, paypal info, asking for shipping address.

You're probably right in that I took the wrong approach, but I suspect I would be crucified all the same if the OP decided to report the PM.

There's sticky thread with rules and guidelines and fighting the moderator's ain't going to help. Moderators do know what they do and they've earned the respect. Questioning their judgement publically ain't going to help. After all you accepted terms of service.
