So I have recently purchased a CRK large sebenza 21 and small inkosi and noticed the website also sells leather slip sheath for the pocket. My question is what does this bring to the table over the standard pocket clip?...do you get a better patina on the titanium being in a leather sheath? Any insight would be appreciated, thanx guys.

You know, I'm 50/50 on the idea.

It may be the worst luck (also known as "my luck"), but of all my clipped knives my Inkosi has been the only one to work it's way out of my pocket and take a header onto the hard tile floor. Didn't hurt the knife any, but still. It doesn't feel like the clip is any weaker than my other knives and I would think the rougher titanium finish would hold it in a bit better.

However, it was enough for me to try taking the clip off and carrying it in a leather slip/wallet I made. Certainly kept it safe, but it also made it a bit of a chore to get out.

Coincidentally to your post here, I elected to put the clip back on it last night before bed. I'll carry it that way a day or two and just move back to the slip if it misbehaves again.

Steely_Gunz Steely_Gunz - Jake - I can NEVER see any photos you post. :( At least those in your sig line.

As to the topic - if you only take your knife out once in a while to use it, a slip is good care but if you are cutting stuff every day a slip is a real bother - to my way of doing things. Not unlike living out of a suitcase. I'm a hook on the wall and drawer type of guy.

I can't answer the patina question but I will list a few thoughts ...

Depending on the retention on the pocket clip, keeping it in a slip might keep your pants from getting torn up. I know many folks find the clip is too tight and tears the pants so they "rebend" the pocket clip. If you keep your knife in a pocket with keys or other hard items, many folks like slips to protect their knife from scratches and dings.

Some folks don't like advertising they are carrying a knife and don't want to clip it on their pants. But they also don't like a knife sliding around in a pocket either. A slip can help stabilize the knife in the pocket.

I don't own a pocket sheath anymore. I had one or two for some older Case traditionals with bone handles. I didn't want them getting scratched up in the pocket. I found out I prefer a lock on my knife so the traditionals + sheaths got sold.

Try it. If you don't like it, you aren't out much $.

What you see in my sig line is my own laziness;)
A former moderator inserted some animated HI gifs a couple years ago. The links are broken, and dont work. I need to clean those up. Thanks for reminding me:)

I carry my Sebbie 21 in a slip sheath I made from latigo leather, after a screw backed out soon after I got it:(. Since then I fixed all the screws with Loctite and haven't had a problem, but I like the sheath -- keeps it from sliding around in the pocket, keeps lint/dust out, and doesn't present a silhouette. I have a toggle on the Sebbie to make it easy to slide out.

A knife slip for a modern with a pocket clip doesn’t do anything for me. I do, however, carry my traditionals in a pocket slip for the reasons stated above from gazz98 gazz98 .

I occasionally use a slip if I’m throwing a small knife in a separate bag I’m carrying. I never use a slip in my pocket. For me, the knife in my pocket needs to be very easy access. Tip up, clipped and pushed to the back seam of my front right pocket or down in the bottom if it’s a traditional. I enjoy my Sebenza scales with some character, so not too worried about what they come in contact with.

When I don't want to advertise that I'm carrying a knife, I put my small Sebenza or large Inkosi in their respective CRK slips and carry them in a pocket alongside my phone. The slip helps keep the knife upright, prevents the phone from getting scratched and reduces wear on the pants. I use the slips also for transportation in a bag/backpack when traveling.

The CRK slips are well designed for daily carry, as is usual for a CRK product. I wish all manufacturers offered well fitting slips for their folders like CRK.

A pocket sheath takes some getting use to. It limits the snail trails on the slab and gives the slab a worn look along the edges of the slabs.

For me it’s pocket clip all the way. If I’m at work I normally need to get to my knife fairly quick and easy. Like Keyopp Keyopp stated I like my CRKs with some trails and character and I’m not concerned with what they come into contact with. I do have a couple knives I carry while not at work, just casually. For them I don’t use the slip that came with them either. For the most part tho if I’m not at work there’s nothing in my pocket with the knife anyway.
