Hey everyone,

I'm new to this forum, but have been collecting knives for years. I am not a steel snob at all, however, I want to start looking into the different properties of various blade steels (mostly for my own amusement and information). Where do you guys go to look for information on all the specific properties for the different steels?

I've tried to look up these things on youtube, but haven't really been able to find many authoritative sources. Just looking to gain some direction from the collective wisdom here. Thanks all!

This is exactly why I posted this, haha. Thanks guys! Figured I would be able to get a bunch of resources in a short time!!

Here's Ankersons edge retention testing. Notice that behind the edge numbers make the major difference next to heat treatment.

Peter at Cedric and Ada gear and outdoors does alot of rope cutting tests. Also showing thinner edge angles will cut more. He also does rust resistance tests and some very basic toughness tests sometimes.

If you want to read some really good heat treatment posts... Look at @Nathan the Machinist posts and threads among other makers on the forum in the blade smith's section.
