Well i wanted to see every ones opinion on some steels so i wanted to throw some lower end steels and compare them and some higher end steels and compare them so for the lower end steel i wanted to put in 440c aus8 8cr13mov

middle end steel vg-10 sandvik 13c26 h1 ats-34

higher end s30v 154cm d2 witch i have ever owned a knife in ats-55 zpd-189
bg-42 aus-10 ats-55 and anything else you guys wanna throw in

well most of those steels that are in middle are pretty impressive but there not zpd-189 wich is like over kill with its extreme hardness

Well I question why you'd put d2 and 154cm in the higher end and put vg10 in the middle. I'd rank aus8 and the alphabet steels lower than 440c.

EDITED due to brain lapse.

I picked up a Fallkniven U2 recently, and I was really disappointed with the SGPS. I'd rank it lower than VG-10.

You can't categorize the steels in tiers, because the steels excel for different purposes.

154CM and ATS34 are almoist the same
I think Hitachi wants to avoid the pattern problem
so they'd changed a tiny bit element percentage

The manufacturing process is also different, hence why they look different under the microscope (from Sandvik):

I have a Fallkniven U2 and the TK4. The U2 holds an edge like 440C or perhaps not as well, perhaps 420HC. The TK4 is a different animal - holds an edge at least as well as VG10. These are subjective judgments, but the U2 steel is not in the same league as the better steels, at least on my knife.

Steel, heat treatment, edge geometry; all three are equally important, and must be in balance.

A great steel that is not up to snuff in the other areas will lead to poor performance.

A lesser steel with quality HT and Edge geometry will often outperform the "better" steel.

Like I always say, buy a knife from a trusted maker designed to do the task at hand and you can't go wrong.

All this talk about which steel is better is really missing the point.

Your question as stated makes no sense.
Low middle and high end for what property?

The only property that is even remotely close to your "ranking" is edge retention. And you have that fouled up as well.
And even then, there are significant differences between your proposed ranking and reality.

440C has SIGNIFICANTLY better edge retention than 13C26.
