Knife storage and desiccant

Decided to finally stop having my pocket knives rattle around in a cardboard box or the roll ups. I don't need them jingle jangling around each other and the rolls keep letting knives fall out. So I bought one of the plastic water sealing boxes that holds a bunch of them. Then it hit me I'm just locking in all the humidity so I should toss in some desiccant packs with them.

Anyone else live in humidity and tackle this issue in a similar manner? How many packs? I doubt I need one per slot but if I toss a few across the top and close it up will that keep the various carbon steels from rusting?

I keep a tray of it in my safe that changes color, I reactivate it about once a month or so.

Nothing wrong with desiccant packs but another option is one of the VCI products.

They allegedly put off a vapor that blocks the chemical reaction that causes corrosion. They are available in a wide range of options from small packets to large plugs.

I’ve been using VCI products for about 15 years with excellent results but I don’t live in an unusually humid environment and I have no way of knowing if my knives would have been fine using nothing.
