Iv'e been looking for a nice storage box for my folder collection, I have about 100 folders, I don't need all of them to fit, but I would like if most of them could. I was looking at some of the Wood Machinist chests on Ebay, anyone have any experiences with them? They are only $80 plus shipping, seems like a very good value. What's the quality like with them? Any other good suggestions?

I saw some Gerstner that look very similar for about 3 times the price, so I am hesitant to buy the Ebay special, if the quality is not there.

I've been looking for something like this also. One thing I have been looking at is old fine silverware boxes, I see them at thrift stores a lot for no more then $5, probably because everyone is scrapping silver and just ditching the boxes. Many of them are made of hard woods and already have felt liners.

Do be careful about the liner materials. I was once shown a beautiful knife with genuine elephant ivory inserts; it was beautiful... until I turned it over. It had been stored for years in a display cabinet on green felt and the dye from the felt had migrated into the ivory... irrepairable. Not all materials will do this, of course. But it's something to be cautious about in cheap display cases.

I've been looking for a nice storage solution for my knives for awhile as well. I finally bit the bullet this past weekend and ordered a Gerstner International oak chest from AG Russell. I was contemplating ordering a similar chest from Harbor Freight for about 1/3 the cost, but decided to go with the Gerstner as it is likely to be better quality and was a little bigger. AGR had one of the best prices I could find. Probably won't arrive for a couple of weeks though.

I've picked up a couple of the wooden tool chests at Harbor Freight and have been very happy with them. Last one was around $65 on sale. Not a vault by any means but it keeps your knives clean and safe from casual/unsupervised handling.
