Trying to find a cheaper alternative to the safe door organizers...Something fabric with pockets that would hold pocket knives and sheath knives that I could hang on the pegboard of my safe door. Any ideas, links?

Cheaper is not the same a good, neither is expensive. There are several options for storage of knives. Are you talking fixed blades? Traditional pocket knivesz. Modern folders?

A few modern folders, a few fixed blade knives. I have been looking at the safe door organizers. The cost would bug me less if they were set up better. Almost all of them mainly have pistol holsters which I don't need.

I wouldn't mind having extra door storage for a few other things but I don't really need something that covers the whole door.

The closest I can come up with is this:

if it didn't have the flap and velcro, and then had some grommets so I could hang it from a couple hooks. The inside of my safe is pegboard.

Remove velcro, add grommets (can be found at any art & crafts store) and there you go. Unless someone makes one that is knife specific that I don't know about you may have to get creative.

How big is the door?

If its one of those big multi gun safes, then a Spyderco Spyderpac might be the way to go.

It's about 28" wide and 6' tall. I'd like something about 24" inches wide and maybe 24 inches tall. Could be a little taller but I don't really need storage below my knees or at had level.

The reason I am posting here on a knife forum, is because I am hoping someone knows something I don't. If I wanted to alter something I already own, I'd just do it and not post. The mag holders are close but they are too deep and narrow, if a folder fell to the bottom it would be a hassle. They are also a little small. I may have to start looking at chest rigs and that kind of thing and see if they are closer.

Right, the safe door organizers are about $100. If they were what I wanted, I'd pay that and be happy, they just aren't. I don't want the pistol holsters, I don't want mesh bags because they don't last. If they were cheaper I might be tempted to buy one and cut off the top half where the holsters are, but I feel like I should be able to get what I want for $100, I just don't know where.

Get one custom made out of leather or find a seamstress that would be willing work with the material of your choice? Since you can't readily find what your are looking for and do not want to alter existing pouches, I think that would be the way to go.

This is a great idea, and would be a very custom way to get exactly what you want. Looking for some heavy duty nylon material, and drawing out a design is what I'd recommend. If that seems like it would be too much, or too complex. Look into a small Spyder Pac, or the Kershaw/ZT knife bags.
