As far as long tern storage w/ a Stainless blade,or Carbon .What should I worry about?I'm in a very low humitey at 9000ft.Leather by products leaching into the blade.RMK or other wise..Please advise. Thanks in advance....

I have heard you should store blade out of thier sheaths long-term, however I have never stored them out of thier sheaths.

I do pull them out on occassion and wipe them down with an oiled cloth to prevent oxidization, and that I would recommend.

A: Don't do it.
B: Don't do it.
C: If you simply must do it, then do as suggested above...or,
D: Just don't do it. (seriously, keep 'em separate)...

Hope that helps

A lot of years ago, I ordered a Model #1 with stainless blade. I made the BAD MISTAKE of leaving it in its sheath for a long time. Had to take it in to the Randall Shop to have the corrosion removed, and it still has a couple of places where some pitting shows.

Hey cut_n_run..If I may ask.
What were the knife conditions?Beach front property or high dessert?
Not familular w/ RMK contractors sheath tanning prosess. Was the corrosion from envoirment and leather.
Or one over the other?Seems like a toxic mix any which way..A knife and its sheath are supposted to be as one.
Amazing we have to keep them apart. How did the Mountain Men ever survive?

Take the sheath apart, treat it inside and out with SnowSeal melted in with a warm hair dryer (2 or 3 coats), then re-stitch. Wipe the blade down with BreakFree or your favorite anti-rust treatment before storing in the sheath. I've done this for years and never have had a problem with rust in the sheath.

Wow.Thats alot....
I swear by snowseal on my boots.
But thats kind of unrealistic.Or are you pullin our leg, north.Way north!.

Was living in Atlanta at the time--had moved there from New England a year or two before I took the knife in to the Randall Shop. Pete Hamilton told me never to store knife in sheath, that even "stainless" steels will eventually corrode.
