new to the forum but a collector for many years.
Anyone know if press n seal is safe for long term blade storage?
Seems to be a good idea but I don’t know if the tacky surface might have glue/chemicals that could harm a blade over long term storage. I have stainless, carbon and antique knives.
Any advice much appreciated!

Dude that’s genius. I would just oil each knife, wrap in a bladehq polishing cloth then press away. Seems like a good idea to me.

Thanks for the replies. I have a number of knives always stored. Many in the original sheaths; which is supposed to be a big no no. But they don’t seem to be harmed. One old Mexican bowie/machete in its crap sheath in great shape still, after it was purchased in Juarez in the late 60’s. Made from an old car spring I think. I did goof up once; sprayed knives with silicon then bundled them in towels with duck tape. Two were too near their sheaths and touched. 3.5 years later they had black rust permeating in spots. Broke my heart. Best solution was clean tube socks sprayed with silicon and one knife per sock: no sheath near. That lasted 12.5 years, no worries. They were packed with desiccant in the foot lockers.
Thanks for listening.

I'm glad I looked at this thread. I hadn't realized that storing in a sheath was a no-no, but recently took a look at my Buck 110 and 112 tucked away in their leathers and saw all the discoloration on their brass bolsters. I've got to get those out and polish them up. I'll remember to store the sheaths and knives separately going forward.

Mothers mag polish bro, trust me. Works great on the copper and blade!

Thanks for the tip, AC. I already got them with a Cape Cod Polishing Cloth, but I'll remember that for next time. I think I've got some sort of mag polish down on my bench, so I'll check that out too.

I wrapped the Bucks in some spare micro-fibre cloths in their own little drawer along with some desiccant and put the sheaths in with my miscellaneous storage. I rarely carry those two--they're just part of the collection as somewhat rare examples of a couple classics.

Just make sure the air in the room is below 40% before you seal that air in the bag. The lower the better. A thin layer of Breakfree Collector wiped on will protect bare steel for 5 years and will not congeal. Renaissance Wax works well for long term storage too.

Since going to the Xtreme I have a food vaccume bag system. Throw in a silica gel pack and suck the air out after coating with Ezox?
