I hope this is the right place to post this.
I have three older carbon steel Schrade Old timers. The Stockman belonged to my father before he passed away, the two bladed Jack was my EDC years ago and the small OT Pal was my sons when he was a kid, he lost it and I found it a couple of years ago.
I want to make a small wooden storage box for these three knives and my wife will make a cloth liner for it, then I want to give them to my son.
My question is will the cedar I want to make the box from damage the carbon steel in any way
(ie. excessive oxidation etc.)?

Thanks in advance for your help;

I keep carbon knives is a oak Gerstner chest. I can confirm that storing in a wood box will not cause excessive oxidation. As for cedar, I'm don't know. Will you be applying a finish to the wood?

in all likelihood the biggest risk will be any glue you use in the process, I'd be looking at info on making a humidor, since those guys are really cautious with contamination. From then its all just a matter of the normal humidity, and care of carbon steel as normal. Id recommend Ren Wax or a similar protectant anyway.
