Knife storage

I've been having trouble finding a decent storage case for high end folding knives, so the material on the inside of the case counts.

Doesn't have to be that big, and I don't care for display purposes. Was wondering if certain gun storage boxes would be better off than the " bag " knife storage I've been seeing around.

Preferably something off Amazon if possible.

Any recommendations are greatly appreciated.

I'm starting to have too many knives and no place to properly store them. Also just to reiterate I'm more concerned over preservation than I am display.

Thanks

somethign like a pelican style case might be what you want.
plano makes some options too that are easier on the wallet.
many models come with the removable foam for limited customization.

Yes pelican was what I was trying to remember. It was mentioned before in the CRK subforum but I lost the link.

They have them on Amazon too. For example the Pelican 1120 / 1200 cases or the like with " pick n pluck " foam. Can I simply rest my knives on top of the foam or one would assume because of it's namesake i can easily pluck out the foam to custom fit the knives? Or cut it out to fit?

the foam is easy to pluck out. I've got a couple that I've used for different things - the foam plucks out in squares that are about 1" to 1.5" ....with a knife, you could put it on top, or even squeeze between the precut blocks.

Yup, a Pelican is a good choice. Drop in a large dessicant pack and you are good to go.

You get the most out of the available space if you get a Pelicase that is high enough for your knives to fit in a vertical position. Then you remove the foam by hand until the whole knife fits into the "hole". Here is an example.

Unless you have a lot of these higher end knives, I would get one of the folding type cases that you can get at the big knife stores. You also see such things at gunshows. They protect knives very well.

I just ordered a Pelican 1300 with the pick and pluck to store my folders. Will let you know how it works out.

Thank you! I would appreciate that. Still trying to pick out the size myself. Thanks for the heads up S subdude and to all other posts on the specifics. Right now my largest knife is a sebenza 21 large. I'll have around 4 knives, soon 5. 3 Sebenza 21s, 2 Mnandis.

Be careful with Pelican cases if you travel. They scream "steal me" just like Louis Vuitton.

Yeah good call, I probably won't be traveling with this stuff " in the near future. " Once I do eventually move I'll figure it out.

I carry high profile cases (Halliburton, Pelican etc.) inside a plain brown paper bag from Ross or TJ Maxx when I'm in stealth mode. The ones used when buying a pillow are big enough to hold a brief case. You may have to run an additional cord though the case handle to hold at the same time as the bag handle if your case is heavy.

Got my 1300 in and started setting it up for the collection. The pick and pluck foam is good if a little time consuming. The 1300 comes with two "levels" of the foam so you need to pluck both to fit most knives. For height, the case holds a ZT0452 vertically (like in the picture above) with no issues. However, the foam in the picture of the nalpak looks far better than the pick and pluck.

Edit: Found it on the nalpak site and for the price I would have gone with the pre cut from them vs. the pick and pluck.
