Knife Storage

Lately I've been trying to organize things around the house and have found boxes and drawers containing literally dozens of knives that I've ordered over the years and forgotten about. And not like one or two dozen. And that got me thinking that the difference between hoarding disorder and perfectly sane collecting is organization.

A long time ago, I could get by with a mechanics tool chest (the kind with lots of drawers that lives in the garage, not the kind you carry around), but now that's not big enough even for just the FBMs and larger.

So I ordered a few "MTM ACR5 Ammo Crate Utility Boxes" from Amazon. They seem like a pretty good option for stuff up to about the size of an FMV-8. They're stackable and not too heavy even when filled to capacity, and they're more-or-less air tight, so moisture shouldn't be a problem (with a couple desiccant packs thrown in each). They seem pretty sturdy and they're not too expensive. They're not a complete Busse storage solution, but they worked out pretty well for me.

Here's a picture from the manufacturer's website:

Get some second hand pallet racking personally im gonna buy a pelican trunk locker for my own collection not sure what they run in us its 350 euro id spend it on a knife so why not a secure box for them they also have two trays on top.
Handy for smaller items good post tho john the boxes look great

A buddy of mine recently suggested that I go to gun shows to pick up cheap ammo crates for knife storage. I kind of like keeping all of my stuff out in the open still, but I will only be able to keep my son out of “the room” for so much longer. Not to mention potential thieves. These crates wouldn’t solve all my problems, but they would be a reasonably low cost stop gap solution at the least...

I have a mechanics tool chest for storage. If it don’t fit, I don’t get it....usually anyway. Kinda keeps me in check.

Yeah. I tried that. Like 10 years ago. Also, Butaniku won't fit, so you might as well give up on that now.

I have two rolling tool chests full, as well as boxes on shelves and drawers in an armoire. Somehow they just seem to keep multiplying!o_O

I use the HDX Storage bins from Home Depot with a couple desiccant packs in them. You just have to make sure the any leather sheaths are on top as the other knives and kydex can mark it up.

I don't think they have one big enough for the swords but I will just hang those on the wall when I finally score one.

Easy for you to say, being a sheath-maker and all. But I've got hundreds and hundreds of knives with nothing but the cardboard sleeves they came in, and those just can't hang. Do you have any idea what it would cost to dress them properly? I'm not made of money, you know.

Let me help you with that ;) I can dress them all.

I also had a customer that took the rods he had in his walk in closet and ran shower curtain metal hooks through the holes on the pommel of literally hundreds of Busse's and hung them like that with either the cardboard or nothing on them. one of the more un-real things I have seen.

Imagine 2 or 3 naked MOAB's with a shower hook ran through the tail pommel hole hanging on a clothes rod in a closet ...................................X10 or 15 for a start.

If I started hanging my Busses in the closet, my wife would hang me. Lol

They have to stay in storage bins in my shop. :D:D:D
