So I’ve heard conflicting information on how to best store valuable knives to preserve their value. I collect historical military knives and I have run into others who swear keeping knives in their fiberglass sheaths/scabbards will ruin them in the future. Is this more of an issue with wearing down the finish? I understand the issue with prolonged leather contact, but what is your guys opinion on this?

Follow up, what are your favorite ways to showcase your knives? Any cool setups or easy tricks to display?

Storage, wipe them with a coating of auto or floor wax after you have wiped them clean with a gun/fishing cloth. Store them in a non humid closet, Gun safe, etc..

Some people store them in a box with a dehumidifier. Perhaps out of sheath just to be safe, but the main concern with storing a knife in its sheath is moisture accumulation, which a dehumidifier will fight against.

A dehumidifier becomes problematic if you have leather handles, though. In that case, a layer of oil/wax will do well.
